Golden Globes nominations 2011: 'King's Speech' leads; 'Fighter' comes out swinging
David O. Russell’s “The Fighter,” in limited release, made a surprisingly strong showing at the Golden Globe nominations early Tuesday morning as it nabbed six key nods, including best picture, director and four acting nominations.
The more awards-friendly “The King’s Speech,” from director Tom Hooper, pulled in the most nominations of the morning with seven. David Fincher’s “The Social Network,” a film about the contentious founding of the Facebook website, garnered six and already has received early critics-group accolades. The other best film drama nominees are “Black Swan” and "Inception."
Meanwhile, the nominees for film musical or comedy were an eclectic group made up of “Alice in Wonderland,” “Burlesque,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “Red” and “The Tourist.”
On the TV side, the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. favored old standbys, showering love once again on “Glee,” which led the pack with five nods.
Previous Globe favorites “Dexter,” “The Good Wife,” “Mad Men” and “Modern Family” and the new drama “Boardwalk Empire” followed, with three nods each.
