Academy announces feature films eligible for best picture Oscar

Oscar The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Monday that 248 feature films are eligible for the best picture Oscar.

To be eligible, films must have opened in a commercial movie theater in Los Angeles County by midnight Dec. 31 and had a minimum engagement of seven consecutive days. A film also must have a running time more than 40 minutes and have been exhibited on 35- or 70-millimeter film or in a digital format accepted by the academy.

Out of the 248 films, 10 features will be nominated for best film on Jan. 25 at the academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The awards will be presented Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center, and the show will be aired live on ABC.
