James Cameron honored by Visual Effects Society, Santa Barbara Film Fest
February 2010 is shaping up to be a busy month for James Cameron. The "Avatar" director is slated to receive two honors that month -- the first from the Santa Barbara Film Festival, which will present him with the Lucky Brand Modern Master Award on Feb. 6. It's the fest's highest tribute, awarded to those who have "enriched our culture through his/her multi-faceted contributions to the motion picture industry." Past recipients include Anthony Hopkins, George Clooney, Sean Penn, Peter Jackson, Jodie Foster and Clint Eastwood.
This year's festival will also honor Colin Firth with the Outstanding Performance of the Year Award for "A Single Man" on Feb. 13; the festival itself runs from Feb. 4-14.
And on Feb. 28, Cameron will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Visual Effects Society. The award, which recognizes an "outstanding body of work that has significantly contributed to the art and/or science of the visual effects society," has been previously given to such legends in the VFX world as George Lucas, Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg.
