Independent Spirit Awards find new home at LA Live
Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces both the Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, has announced that the 2010 edition of the Spirit Awards is headed downtown -- to LA Live, across the street from the Staples Center, on March 5. The event had established itself as a sort of anti-awards show, with a more laid-back tone reflected by its daytime scheduling and its Santa Monica beach location. The 2010 awards are slated as an evening event (8 p.m. Pacific time) with a live broadcast on IFC. It's all very new and tech-savvy, but the question is: will this prime-time slot and more formal location take away some of the, well, indie spirit of the Spirit Awards? Tune in to find out, as they used to say.

Won't seem the same.
No beach?
No tent?
What's the world coming to?

It was only a matter of time before Film Independent completely sold out.
LA Live? Nothing says independent or anti-awards about this location. is this why the organization continues to raise membership costs, cut membership benefits, and the Spirit Awards go to a mor glam location.
