David Cook cancels shows for 'personal family matters'; fans supportive
Season 7 "American Idol" winner, David Cook, is canceling two performances because of undisclosed family issues.
Sunday afternoon, the following bulletin was posted on David's website:
"We are canceling Monday and Tuesday's shows to allow David time to deal with personal family matters. Please respect his privacy at this time. David would like everyone to rest assured that we are working with the Universities to reschedule the shows that are missed."
The canceled shows were scheduled at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., and Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Conn.
Cook's fans have been nothing but supportive, posting tons of kind words on the rock star's website.
"We love you and will wait for you however long you are gone," wrote one fan; "your family comes first, and we all respect that," assured another.
If you have a message of support for David and his family, feel free to post it below in the comments section.
David Cook is currently scheduled to perform his new single, "Come Back to Me," which you can listen to here, on "American Idol's" results show Wednesday.

David's been nothing but amazing to his fans and the least we can do is to support him in this moment. We don't know and do not need to know what's happening, but family should come first and David has always shown that he values his.
My best wishes to him and his family.
I fear it's about his older brother Adam, but I hope not.

David is amazing to his fans. We all are concerned and praying and waiting for him to tell us when you're ready. Until then try to take some time off and relax. We all hope this is just some needed R&R.

All the best to David and family, so sorry for whatever challenges you have. Everyone has times when you need to take care of those closest. All the best.

I was at the show at William and Mary and videotaped his announcement. We all just fell silent because it wasn't expected and then we felt so sad for him. You could tell it was so hard for him. Here's the link to my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXMqvO4oGzU My thoughts and prayers are for him and his family.

Since last Spring David has become a huge part of my life. As long as I live, the memory of May 20 and May 21 last year will never fade. He is a very special young man, with a huge heart, and a gift for communication in every way possible, be it music, comedy, expressing himself, he is just amazing. I know him, but he does not know me.....I love him so so much. For the past week, I have not been able to sleep very well, am worried about him, but mostly thinking about what he is going through. Tomorrow I get on a plane in CT to fly to Wilmington NC, because I am going to his show on Thursday at UNC-W. His music is necessary for me, and there are no words to express just how much his music means to me.

I hope the media will allow David and his family to handle the current situation in private. Whatever it entails and however long it takes I now his fans will wait patiently. I for one will not purchase any magazine or watch any program that attempts to film or photograph the Cooks in any private capacity.

I was lucky enough to see Cook perform in Biloxi this year and left the show knowing I had seen one heck of a performance. The outpouring of support this young man is receiving from all over the world right now is just amazing. Never seen anything like it ...
