Ratings down ten percent
Over at the Showtracker blog, Scott Collins reports:
Tuesday's two-hour Season 8 premiere of Fox's "American Idol" was down 10% compared with last year, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen Media Research.
"Idol" was easily the night's top show, with a 16.7 rating/25 share in households in "metered-market" ratings, which cover the 56 largest TV markets. But that number would represent the lowest premiere performance for the show since the Season 3 launch in January 2004.
Fox's "fast affiliate" average was 30.1-million total viewers from 8 to 10 p.m. Last year, the show opened with 33.4 million viewers.
