Jason Castro sings 'White Christmas'

December 30, 2008 |  2:05 pm

Bing Crosby is now rolling his eyes in amazement somewhere at the sight of dreadlocked, ukelele-strumming Jason Castro doing this lovely rendition of "White Christmas" at his hometown Lake  Pointe Church in Rockwall, Texas.  The video, recorded by the church, has been making the rounds on the Web feeding the insatiable dreadhead appetite for Jason material.

I reported a few weeks ago about Jason's recent video talking openly about his faith.  I wonder with the positive feedback he received from his fans (see, for instance, the comments section after that post) how much pull he'll feel to record specifically Christian music -- or in church settings -- versus non-spiritually themed material.

I love the way Jason Castro did White Christmas. I'm sure Bing would be be proud. As for the I am Second video and your comment about the "pull" for Jason to do Christian music, I believe that you are wrong there. Jason says in that video that he thinks all music is from God. I think he will stay true to the music he has already written and find a more diverse audience than just a Christian fan base

I have to agree with Lynne....Jason believes that all music are spiritual and those that he writes comes from the talents that God gave him. His rendition of White Christmas is not only lovely but charming, endearing and very Jason Castro. It's so precious.

Its OK to say Jesus Christ provided me with a WAY to heaven along with Jason Castro and billions of others. Why are people so afraid of the saving grace that only a Holy God can give? We aren't getting to heaven on our own, folks, and a real hell is the ONLY alternative. We should be screaming from the rooftops because who REALLY wants to end up in a firey unforgetable place like hell? Jason needs to follow his God's direction in which ever way that may be. The rest of us need to sit back and enjoy that direction, because it will surely involve that special young man's singing. And if Jason is singing about his sweet Savior (who did what we cannot do) or sing about his sweetheart that is between him and his Creator it will be wonderful!

Remember, there is a God and we can deny His existance all we want, but the fact remains He created the sunrise and the sunset - we had nothing to with that (not even man made global warming has anything to do with it). He was here before us and He will be around long after we're gone, whether we like it or not.

Jason version of "White Christmas" is simply GREAT! Well, just because Jason is great himself! It is wonderful to see how he is appreciated in so many regions of the world and how we, his fans, are so different from each other in many aspects (religious for instance). In his last concert in Garland we were there to show him support from around 30 States and Canada, England and Mexico (from where I am), to see that... to experience that shows how well appreciated Jason is and how many hearts his music can reach! He is amazing! I can't stop listening to his original music and of course his beautiful versions of well known songs, just like "White Christmas".

It was so fun watching Jason react to the two pastors. In regards to Jason and his music, all of his music comes from the depths of his soul. He carries his connection with his God with him in whatever he does. Believe me it shines through every time you meet him.

Thank you for your comments about Jason's rendition of White Christmas. I agree it's lovely!! He's talented and inspiring!

One thing I truly appreciate about Jason is that when he speaks of his relationship with God, he doesn't push an agenda on anyone. He's wise beyond his years, understanding that he can be inspired by God and dedicate his singing and life to God, but he's accepting of those of us with different beliefs and viewpoints. That's why I don't think Jason will feel compelled to do primarily Christian music. He wants to appeal to the masses and feels that he can praise God with any kind of music.

Jason doesnt need to just do worship songs. He is inspiring doing what he does. He is reaching far more people as he is. He will only grow and become more inspiring. He shows us that God loves us and that is what most of us need to know. When people get that message the rest is up to them. He is exactly what the entertainment world has needed for so long. Grace and passion wrapped up in a beautiful voice and music about life and love (the very things God has given us). I am looking forward to more from this young man as he is an inpiration to so many. I am also glad that he has chosen to do songs about life and not just worship songs as I feel God put us here to enjoy it.

Thank you for posting these wonderful videos. I was lucky enough to attend Lakepointe church a few weeks ago while in town for Jason's concert, and it was a lovely sermon surrounded by beautiful music. Jason singing at Lakepointe on Christmas Eve is like him coming full circle. When he auditioned for American Idol, he had only sang in public a handful of times. After making it to Hollywood, Jason sang at Lakepointe twice to gain experience. The congregation there is 5-6000. So singing White Christmas here a little over a year later is like coming home. Beautiful rendition of White Christmas and he looks beautiful singing it.

Thanks for posting the videos. I enjoyed watching them. Jason seemed happy to be singing at his church again and I loved his rendition of "White Christmas." The Pastors' skit was funny.

I don't think that Jason will feel the need to record specifically Christian music. Some of his original songs are inspiring and reflective but some of his original songs are also fun and romantic. He's just being himself and sharing what he loves. He's Christian AND he's also a 21 year old hot guy with a fun, adventurous, romantic nature. Most of his fans are willing to accept all sides of him because he has many dimensions to him.

Hi Richard
Thank you so much for you support of Jason and all these kids as they venture from the AI stage. I am so looking forward to Jason's career and new original music. If you haven't had a chance yet you can get a sneak peek over at youtube on songs like: Shine Your Light, It's Alright With Me, (a personal favorite), Tell Me So & Love Uncompromised. He is really a gifted artist and I anxiously await his CD. Rumor has it, it may be as early as March! *fingers crossed* Looking forward to your reviews.

Wow, I'm surprised myself that I really like his rendition of "White Christmas". I am not Jason's fan, but to tell the truth........the way he sings the song is unique and soothing. And he proves that a song can be sung beautifully without having to scream. I'm waiting for his CD.

I've had a chance to meet Jason at Lake Pointe church and he's as incredible and unique as his voice. You can see the love he has for God in his humble attitude and kind smile. My kids look up to him and I am very thankful for that. We are eagerly anticipating a CD and, in the meantime, enjoying replaying his rendition of White Christmas at our Christmas Eve service. Like many of you have said, I believe he will sing what God puts on his heart to sing, and his heart is definitely in the right place.

It was an absolutely wonderful time working with Jason during the Christmas services. I was happy to see him back at home, being Jason, a member of the church, and singing.
