Seen and heard at the USC-UCLA game
In addition to a good number of NBA scouts, a pair of Pac-10 referee evaluators were in the stands when UCLA's men's basketball team came to USC on Sunday night. "The only team we're rooting for is the officiating team," one of them quipped. USC alum Tom Selleck was on hand, as was women's soccer coach Ali Khosroshahin. Who wasn't there? A couple of hundred USC students who were denied admission when the student section hit capacity. You snooze, you lose.
As for Bruin fans, they've visited the Galen Center only three times -- and come away happy after each visit. UCLA won, 65-64, in 2007, 56-46, in 2008, and 64-60 this year. "This is our house. We're going to start charging rent," said one happy Bruin after the game.
USC is winning at football, UCLA is winning at basketball. Los Angeles is at equilibrium.
