Pete Carroll's coaching tree may keep branching

Sarkisian_kiffin

It comes as no surprise that Steve Sarkisian would take over as a head coach somewhere, and after almost eight seasons at USC it seems the Pete Carroll "coaching tree" is branching out and will continue to grow.

  • Steve Sarkisian: (Pictured, left) Reportedly leaving USC's offensive coordinator job to become the head coach of Washington. Was offered the head coaching job of the Oakland Raiders a couple of years ago but turned it down.
  • Lane Kiffin: (Pictured, right) Left USC's offensive coordinator job to become the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, now head coach at Tennessee.
  • Ed Orgeron: Left USC's assistant head coaching job to become the head coach of Mississippi and make unintentionally hilarious commercials. Now an assistant with the New Orleans Saints (rumored to be joining Kiffin in Tennessee).
  • DeWayne Walker: Left USC after being the secondary coach for one year and went the NFL, then became the defensive coordinator at UCLA. He's being mentioned in connection with several open head coaching jobs. Walker first worked under Carroll with the New England Patriots.
  • Norm Chow: Certainly not a "disciple" of Pete Carroll because he was already well-established before coming to USC, but Carroll's first offensive coordinator now runs the attack for UCLA. It looks like he'll be there a couple of more years, but many are surprised he's not already leading a team elsewhere.
  • Nick Holt: Left USC's linebacker coaching job to become the head coach of Idaho, now back at USC as defensive coordinator.
  • Carl Smith: Left USC's quarterback coaching position after only one year and jumped to the NFL, where he was offensive coordinator in Jacksonville and New Orleans. He may replace Sarkisian, but if not he's still probably a candidate for other coaching positions.
