Ohio State Game Day Musings: Second Half
- Shortly after nightfall, there was an electric vibe to start the second half, with so many cameras flashing in the Coliseum. You can't see any stars in the sky, but the ongoing flash effect makes up for it.
- A gas company, which doesn't deserve to be named, is running a promotion where fans are supposed pick one of three cartoon cars displayed on the Jumbotron and root for it to win a short race. Unlike the challenges that ask you to follow a baseball hiding under a cap, there's no skill involved in this one. Just pick a color and yell at it. I'm not sure which is more embarrassing ... being the one who thought of it, or being the one who allowed it to continue for another year.
- When USC went up, 28-3, the game seemed to be over. With USC up, 35-3, and Georgia escaping South Carolina, 14-7, no team in the nation seems close to the Trojans. There's a lot of football left to be played this season ... but hold onto your hat. This could be quite a ride.
- Joe McKnight is out with a migraine. I used to get those as a kid. They really suck. Medicine isn't much help. The surprising part is that he would have a migraine after playing so well in the game. With 105 yards rushing, he's probably had an elevated heart rate. A good cardio workout is one of the best ways to relieve the pain. (You know this game is well in hand when this is what I'm writing about.)
- Mark Sanchez made an awkward shovel pass, then dashed ahead of his receiver to throw blocks downfield. Though it wasn't a great play (he probably should have kept the ball), man it's fun to watch this kid play! He's on track to pass Reggie Bush for the top spot on my list of most entertaining USC players.
- Tonight's attendance: 93,607. That's the most in the Coliseum since 1993, when 93,458, were at the USC-UCLA game.

32 point win. Nice way to stop the Pac 10 bleeding on this day but if anyone could do it, it was 'SC against the OSU Blackeyes. Nice beat-down for the Trojans from the Coliseum. Watching this blood-letting from my livingroom here in Washington did my heart good. As a Trojan alum up here in Dawg Town, I loved every minute of it. Too bad Sanchez left a couple of throws on the field late or the score could have been 49-3. Well Buckeye fans... not to worry. Maybe next century. Fight On!

Wow, those guys adjust and shut down Ohio State's offense to 30+/- yards in the entire 2nd half? Well of course a lot of that comes from all the sacks...but that's solid defense either way.
Man oh man, I cannot wait for the Oregon game.

I made a few typos on this post. I was doing it on the fly! It's all been corrected ... I hope.

Please check your facts...this was by NO means the largest Coliseum crowd in history...only just since they ruined the place by yanking the track and cutting off the peristyle with belacher seats. I've been to ND and UCLA games there with 101,000 people.
BRING BACK THE TRACK and let Traveler charge out of the tunnel!!!

OK, here's your Deep South guy you anticipated.
Nice game. The SEC, for two years in a row, late in the season, trounced OSU - while they were ranked higher and with a complete roster (Beanie who???).
LSU and Florida killed what was touted to be a hands-down National Championship team. So, while you're patting your backs try giving an acknowledgment that USC is going where the SEC has already been.
And yes, I really hope and pray that USC gets an opportunity to play a highly ranked SEC team. And when you feel obligated to bad mouth the SEC, please remember that Louisiana is where you got Booty and McKnight.
Geaux Tigers!

RIP BCS -- I must have misheard the press box announcement. Checking against the media guide, there have definitely been larger football crowds. A 1947 Notre Dame game had 104,953 people there. There have been five other 100,000+ crowds, all before 1955. After a stadium reconfiguration in 1964, the record was 94,085 for a UCLA game followed by 93,829 at a 1988 Notre Dame game. This game was third in that time period.

I was curious if anyone knows how many members of the current football team are charged with crimes or have criminal records. I suspect it ranks high among Div I schools.

Schoolmarm,
Spelling really dosn't make someone smart or dum we live in a hurried world and I think he got the point accross so you need to CHILL and go back to Westwood High and hang out with 0-59.
