Leapfrog! USC claims No. 1 spot in both polls
As a reward for not scheduling cupcakes, then beating the tar out of its Division 1 opponent, USC has been given the top ranking in both the Associated Press (Media) Poll and USA Today (Coaches) Poll. That's a two-spot jump in the media and one-spot jump in the coaches poll. The top five, which all played, now look like this:
- USC
- Georgia
- Ohio State
- Oklahoma
- Florida
The margins are pretty tight and it'll be interesting to see what happens this weekend, when all the other teams have games and the Trojans have a bye. Wouldn't it be something if Ohio State can pass Georgia to set up a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the Coliseum on Sept. 13?

Ohio State won't claim the #2 spot. Since they continue their weak schedule with a game against Ohio. So barring a HUGE upset of Central Michigan over Georgia, it won't happen. Although sadly USC might drop b/c of the bye week. It doesn't really matter, it matters where USC is in the last couple of polls.

rankings never really mean to much at this point, mainly it's just a way for betters to have upsets. I mean did Tenn. really play or look like a rank team, I think not but and there coaching staff was truely overmatched. One thing about coach Carroll is that he takes each game by itself but it is your players that you have to keep in the loop because they can get caught up in the media and fan hipe.
