FSN Scratches Your Itch

Fsn_prime_ticket_logo Late summer is allergy season for college football fans. You've got this incurable itch for the gridiron. Your head is getting stuffy and there won't be any spicy mustard around for two months. What's a fan to do?

FSN PRIME TICKET is coming to the rescue with eight weekends of classic programming, reliving some of the greatest events in Southern California sports history. Although no USC games will be aired, plenty of Trojan athletes are featured in the high school games. Check out your favorite players before they donned the cardinal and gold:

Airing July 11, 9 p.m.: Mater Dei vs. Servite (2006) Featuring USC linebacker Chris Galippo (Servite), future Trojan offensive lineman Matt Kalil (Servite) and heralded USC commit Matt Barkley (Mater Dei).

Airing July 18, 9 p.m.: Orange Lutheran vs. Los Alamitos (2006) Featuring USC quarterback Aaron Corp and lineman Michael Reardon, both from Orange Lutheran.

Airing July 25, 11 p.m.: Long Beach Poly vs. Loyola (2000)
This Division I championship game was as loaded with college and NFL talent as high school games come. It was won in overtime on a touchdown run by Trojan Hershel Dennis. Other USC players include Darnell Bing (NY Jets), Winston Justice (Philadelphia Eagles) and Manuel Wright (NY Giants), all from Poly. Of course, you can't forget Poly/UCLA product Marcedes Lewis (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Loyola/UCLA product Matt Ware (Arizona Cardinals). Tivo this one.

Airing Aug. 1, 11 p.m.: Notre Dame vs. St. Paul (2003) Featuring USC starting cornerback Cary Harris from Notre Dame High School.

Airing Aug. 8, 11 p.m.: De La Salle vs. Mater Dei (1998) Featuring Mater Dei's Matt Grootegoed and possibly Matt Leinart (the future Arizona Cardinal may have missed this one with an injury).

Airing Aug. 15, 11 p.m.: Westlake @ Hart (2003)
Featuring Westlake's Jimmy Miller, a future USC tight end.

Airing Aug. 22, 9 p.m.: Long Beach Poly vs. Mater Dei (1998)
Often called the "Grootegoed game," as future Trojan Matt Grootegoed took over this Division I championship showdown with one of the greatest individual performances in state high school football history. He was named player of the game on both sides of the ball. Also featuring a pair of Trojans from Long Beach Poly, Kareem Kelly and Darrell Rideaux.

Adam Rose learned about the highs and lows of USC athletics while going to school. As a freshman, he watched the football team crash to the bottom of the Pac 10. By the time he was a senior, he was in the stands for a National Championship. In between, he liked to argue points as a member of the Trojan Debate Squad. Nowadays, he's just looking to tell a good story. He is currently Sports Editor for LAist, where he covers a wide range of local action. He can also be seen weekly on KNBC 4's News Raw. Adam manages special events in the sports community when he isn't participating himself (he staggered through the LA Marathon and can often be found on local soccer fields). If you have a question about the Trojans or just want to give him a piece of your mind, email: adam@laist.com.
