Is USC Watching Its Athletes Closely Enough?

Did Reggie Bush's Impala really stand out on a campus full of high-end luxury cars?

Did anybody see O.J. Mayo's TV that was tucked away inside a dorm room?

Most importantly ...

Just another example of a spoiled athelete that knows better. And guess what, momma
acts like she don't know what
happened, well tell me another story will ya.

We conducted an investigation before he enrolled. What more are we supposed to do? Coach Floyd is a basketball coach, not a private investigator? Should the university create it's own investigative unit? How could we possibly afford such a thing with our sports admin budget? USC is a college, not a professional sports team. How much of the investigative burden should be placed on the Pac-10 and the NCAA, as well as state and federal law enforcement? A university can only do so much. I agree that Mayo seems like a high character kid, and Floyd is just trying to win games without breaking rules. Who honestly doesn't think that Beasley, Rose, Wright, Walker, etc. haven't taken some illegal benefits along the way. This is a societal problem, SC is just under the microscope as the highest profle school in the media capital of the world. SC is getting dragged into the spotlight, but is a sympton of the problem of big time sports in the college amateur environment in the country today.

No one is blaming USC. Nothing more you could do except understand that there was a high liklihood that
this guy would have some sugar daddy providing him
with stuff. It would not take a rocket scientist to ask to
see his purchase records for all his toys, cars, Big Screen TV, flying all over the place, WAIT A MINUTE,
USC PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE FOUND OUT SOMETHING.

People jumped on the SC band wagon when they made it to the sweet sixteen last year, but that was because of Bibby and his recruits, Pruitt and Young. SC didnt do anything this year and Coach FLoyd is running Thugs R S, in the tradition of Tark the Shark. Sc Basketball sucks and it will never be one of the nations flagship basketball programs. Its a football school.

Adam Rose learned about the highs and lows of USC athletics while going to school. As a freshman, he watched the football team crash to the bottom of the Pac 10. By the time he was a senior, he was in the stands for a National Championship. In between, he liked to argue points as a member of the Trojan Debate Squad. Nowadays, he's just looking to tell a good story. He is currently Sports Editor for LAist, where he covers a wide range of local action. He can also be seen weekly on KNBC 4's News Raw. Adam manages special events in the sports community when he isn't participating himself (he staggered through the LA Marathon and can often be found on local soccer fields). If you have a question about the Trojans or just want to give him a piece of your mind, email: adam@laist.com.
