Regarding article from Mayo's hometown newspaper that we should feel sorry for OJ because all he was looking for is a father figure.
It may be true, but do we have to use this as the excuse for every wanna bee basketball star that grows up with an absent father. Every top notch athlete or coach that has a 5 star athlete is very aware about what will make them ineligible. I'm sure a school like SC has mandatory NCAA rules eligibility lectures for all of their athletes. So if OJ did break the rules, you can't go around making up excuses for him. He definitely knew what he was doing.
Whether you like the rules or not, our society is based upon rules and consequences for breaking those rules. Unfortunately SC may be the only one that will be punished in this case.
As far as paying for meals, OJ's scholarship does come with a full meal plan. It's not like he's starving. During the BB season the players are also fed very well at excellent restaurants, so getting a good meal is also a very poor excuse!!
