The Transition

Trojanlogo_2 Bruinlogo_2 As posted last night, Rich Perelman is stepping away from What's Bruin, our UCLA blog here on latimes.com. He's done a great job and we wish him best of success on his other projects. If he has time, we'll try to drag him back for a few guest appearances!

I'm excited to announce that our blog coverage of USC and UCLA will merge -- and simultaneously expand. The new format will borrow from a few lessons learned at LAist (whose former editor, Tony Pierce, now runs all the blogs for The Times). We're going to cast our net a little wider and get some more people involved.

I'll be managing this new project. Yes, USC is still my alma mater. No, UCLA has nothing to worry about.

The former L.A. Times sports editor went to Notre Dame. After spending months in the trenches with several beat writers and columnists, I can assure you that we have no anti-USC or pro-Irish bias. The same professionalism will apply here. Besides, my dad went to UCLA -- as did two of my siblings and both of my sisters-in-law. My brother even wrote for the Daily Bruin. If I'm unfair, my family holidays will get really uncomfortable*.

It's our commitment to provide the most insightful, innovative and (ultimately) balanced content that you'll find in a local sports blog. Of course we'll have lots of opinions -- but they won't all be mine. This will be a group effort. If you, or somebody you know, would make a good contributor to this new blog please drop me a line.

But first things first. We're still taking suggestions for a name. It could be an alpha-jumble (USCLA) or capture the college spirit (WVU fan site WeMustIgniteThisCouch.com has one of the best names ever created). Feel free to e-mail me with ideas or mention them in the comments.

Humbly,
Adam Rose

* As if they aren't already -- cousins on three sides of my family went to USC.

Hey, how about these:

-A House Divided
-A Red and Blue Rivalry
-From Westwood to South Central and Back Again (is that too long?)
-Split The 10s

Really late April Fools?

WESTWOODHERO

No one wants to merge with you stupid Trogans. Adam Rose should stay here and leave the real sports blog in Los Angeles to real BRUINS.

Mike

Yeah, I don't really like this idea either. I just don't care about what's going on at UCLA. All I care about is All Things Trojan. Is it too much to ask to keep them separate?

gerrrg

Cardinal and Baby Blues?

mag

Cannot believe what I am reading. Combining the USC and UCLA blogs is a really crappy idea.

char

Why???? Let's stay separate but equal.

Please NO!!!!!

ScTrojan

I don't parity, I want complete biased coverage of USC only!!! I could care less about the other side of town. Might even lose interest all together of this blog if you have to waste your time covering both. Totally Lame Idea!!!!

NYC - USC Trojan

Keep them separated......don't combine the two blogs.

Please say it's not so.
