More Thoughts on the Simmons Arrest
Best case: Simmons was arrested with another person, Lamont Hall, on the same charges and with the same amount of bail. Could it be that Hall was behind everything and Simmons will be cleared? Think about last year's specious accusations against O.J. Mayo, who was in a car with marijuana belonging to another passenger. As we've seen since then, Mayo is a good kid with a remarkable work ethic.
Worst case: Trouble may be following the Simmons football family. One older brother, Melvin, was the victim of a vicious fraternity attack in Washington before transferring to USC (where he became team captain in 2003). While there's no indication Melvin was in the wrong, somebody pointed out yesterday that fraternities are far more likely to give football players a beer than a beating -- unless provoked. Another older brother, Marvin, was supposed to play for USC but his academic test scores came up short. He eventually wound up at Kansas State.
Go Figure: Speaking of brothers getting into trouble, Mikhail Marinovich -- Todd's younger brother -- was just arrested for criminal mischief at Syracuse.
