DeRozan Drinks McDonald's Milkshake ...

... he drinks it up!

As previously hinted at on this blog, incoming USC swingman DeMar DeRozan reigned down some serious thunder at the McDonald's All-American high school slam-dunk competition. You can check out his winning tap-off-the-backboard slam in the video above. After the jump you'll see his between-the-legs-and-behind-the-head gem done just minutes before. Each dunk earned an 80 -- the only perfect scores of the entire competition.

Where's that "Boom goes the dynamite!" kid when you need him?

Here's the first perfect score dunk:

In the previous round, DeRozan got an assist from Bruin commits Malcolm Lee and Jrue Holiday, prompting the announcer to exclaim, "Wow! Was that UCLA to USC? I'm not sure that's allowed within the 213!" Take a look:

Overall, yesterday was a pretty good one for the West.

While DeRozan could take some of the sting out of likely early departures from the current Trojan squad (namely O.J. Mayo, Davon Jefferson, and/or Taj Gibson), he's already projected as the top overall pick in next year's NBA draft. At this stage, he's more likely than Mayo to be one-and-done. As we've seen before, one shooting star does not a team make.

For more on DeRozan, Rivals.com did a video interview with him this week.

Demar looked pretty legit last night. I'm excited for him for next semester. Hopefully he'll be coming into some experienced veterans' wings... only time will tell.

he is a beast

Adam Rose learned about the highs and lows of USC athletics while going to school. As a freshman, he watched the football team crash to the bottom of the Pac 10. By the time he was a senior, he was in the stands for a National Championship. In between, he liked to argue points as a member of the Trojan Debate Squad. Nowadays, he's just looking to tell a good story. He is currently Sports Editor for LAist, where he covers a wide range of local action. He can also be seen weekly on KNBC 4's News Raw.
