So now you are even linking the same USC student interview with John Cusack that was already posted on Scott Wolf's blog a day earlier?

Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery...or is this simply plagiarism?

Hmmmm ... public domain links appearing on different blogs = plagiarism? Somebody call the internet police! We've gotta' shut down the whole dang thing!

Anyway, I just searched for YouTube for "USC" by date added. That was the best piece of arbitrary USC-related comic relief. I would have opted for a compilation of cheerleader pictures set to classical music and punctuated with a couple random shots of lucha libre characters, but it was a little too long. There was also a cool OJ Mayo highlight video but the music had too much profanity for me to link to on this particular site.

Adam:

I have to take the side of Noddy here. That video was added to YouTube three weeks ago, then it was linked by Scott Wolf on his blog the day before it "coincidentally" appeared as a link on your blog. So the whole "date added" argument is false and you know it.

There have been so many inaccuracies, as well as copying/pasting of links/information from other sources, on this blog, that it has become a visible pattern. Were you not even caught saying that you were not going to run this blog "like Scott Wolf" during a USC practice a few months ago, while Scott Wolf was standing a mere three feet away from you? That is part of why you have earned a rather poor reputation among those at USC.

As I said, it's become a pattern with you. I wonder what Randy Harvey has to say all this?

Raymond -- Everybody's entitled to an opinion, and I'm glad you shared yours (especially b/c I've been researching the theoretical underpinnings of new media lately ... dorky, I know).

The world of blogging as it exists today is built on "copying/pasting of links/information from other sources." I consistently cite mine and try to link back to original sources (not to mention creating original content). One of the biggest advantages of modern media is the ability to link. Blogs often act as a way to simply filter information, and the good ones do not get in between you and the source.

Ultimately this creates a lot of synergy. It's a beautiful thing. We're developing a new style of discourse that couldn't have been dreamed of a couple decades ago.

As for inaccuracies, they're a bump in the road of that discourse:

http://www.nytimes.com/ref/pageoneplus/corrections.html

I make sure to be clear and honest about it if a correction is necessary.

Back to the crux of the matter. If a duplicated link is your biggest gripe, you just made my day. I'm thrilled -- honestly! :-)

Had I built an entire post around the interview video, I agree that it would smack of copycat syndrome. It would also be lame because it doesn't warrant a post of its own. Notice, however, that it's tacked onto the bottom of a list. The video is originally from December 7, so yes, it's been online for awhile. Check the others. The highlight video is from December 8. The Howard Jones video is from November 24. All three were still relevant for this post because I was simply drawing attention to USC videos on YouTube.

And yes, I said I didn't want to do a blog "like Scott Wolf." We've got different styles, which should be expected. Of course, there are some similarities. We both write about USC. We both have repeated material directly from USC Sports Information (that's how it's supposed to work, though your comment would suggest it's improper -- we like to call them "sources"). We both like soccer. At the end of the day, he is working hard and contributing to the discourse -- I hope that I am, as well.

Thanks for reading.
