Are You Ready for Some Football? A Monday Night Party?
If you're looking for a place to enjoy Monday Night Football, it's hard to top watching the game with Rod Martin at Pancho's in Manhattan Beach.
Martin was All-Pac-10 when he played at USC, but he was better known for his success in the NFL.
A two-time Pro Bowl selection, he earned two Super Bowl rings with the Raiders. The linebacker also set a Super Bowl record with three interceptions in one game.
Martin is as comfortable on stage as he was on the gridiron. He emcees at halftime every Monday during the season, telling stories, giving away raffle prizes, cracking jokes, and recognizing his fellow NFL alumni in the crowd.
According to Martin, you may see former Laker players, Raider players, and even Raiderettes. Mike Davis, Lester Hayes and Ted Hendricks have made appearances, as have Trojans including Charles White and Anthony Davis. Non-football celebrities such as Ray Charles Jr. have also stopped by for the events, which have been taking place during Monday Night Football at Pancho's for the past 19 years.
To top it off, there's a free buffet for people buying drinks at the bar (alcoholic or non-alcoholic).
After stepping off stage last week, Martin was all smiles. "There's great food, there's great atmosphere, and we just have a lot of fun. There's camaraderie!" The crowd was all smiles, too.
If you plan on going to this already-packed house, keep in mind that the material isn't always G-rated, but there is a place for the kids downstairs, and Martin keeps it clean when he sees younger fans around.
