Numbers Game
Some football stats released by the Pac-10 this week:
- USC leads the conference in red-zone offense, scoring on 13 of 14 drives that reached the 20-yard line.
- USC averages 3 punts per game, lowest in the league.
- USC is tied for 8th in turnover margin with Stanford. Only Oregon State is worse.
- In two home games, Oregon State has had a combined attendance of 78,894. Washington State has had 78,354. Stanford has had 75,004. In just one home game, USC had 90,917.
- The Pac-10 is 20-6 (.769) in nonconference games and 3-2 against top 25 teams.
- Four Pac-10 teams are averaging 200+ yards per game on the ground.
- Instant replay is being used for the third year. This season there have been 29 stoppages (4 on coaches challenges) and 5 reversals (0 on coaches challenges). The average length of review is 1:44. That doesn't count 48 plays reviewed without needing to stop the game.

Attendance at Oregon State/Washington State is greater than Southern Cal's attendance.
Factor in size of market each team plays; ie: all things equal, Southern Cal would have to draw 1+million attendance/home game to equal size of market in, say, Pullman-Spokane. CPMPCM.
There are lies; there are damn lies; then, there are statistics.
Do the dif e.

Dear Faded Love,
In the real world, 90,917 is greater than 78,894 or 78,354.
I know it's hard to count that many because you have only so many fingers and toes, but trust me. If you had 90,917 baseballs, you would have more baseballs than if you had 78,894.
That's the way counting works.
Therefore, attendence is not greater at WSU or OSU, no matter how you try to spin it. There are 12,000+ more people sitting in the Colisuem.
Plus, you also forgot to factor in size of stadium, average butt size of each person (chances are they're a bit more slim in SoCal), and the people who sneak in without a ticket.
It's just a fact, dude.
Try to take your bitter hatred of 'SC out on something that actually has significance.

Dear small gene pool:
Spokane is the 80th market; LA is the 2nd market
(first in radio); translation: more people are not attending USC games
per thousand population in LA than in Spokane. You must have a
USC-OJ campus (as some one noted) bias. Call O. J.; he will explain.

Dear Fallacious Loser,
The Coliseum has a capacity of 90,000.
Therefore, it is physically impossible (and according to the fire marshall, illegal) for much more than that to sit in it.
I realize physics isn't your speciality, as you are counting challenged, but them's the breaks.
Now if you really want to talk CPMs, let's talk ratings.
USC/Nebraska had 7.4 million viewers and gave ABC its highest Saturday ratings of the year among adults 18-34 (2.3 rating), adults 18-49 (2.6 rating) and adults 25-54 (3.0 rating) - source: http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/
And the ratings for the WSU/Idaho game, carried just regionally on FSN the same weekend? Or how about that WSU/SDSU game - oh wait. No one cared enough to broadcast it. Why? Because the audience didn't exist in large enough numbers to make it attractive enough.
So you go on with your bad CPM self. I really, really hope you aren't a media buyer. After all, media buying also involves counting...and some rational thought.

Dear smal;l gene pool:
Media buying is done by some 22 year old fresh out of college who except for her 3 beer guzzling boyfriends doesn't know the difference between USC-OJ campus and OJ. And the 7.4 are the overnights for the LA market--soon to be adjusted...downward.
And if the fire marshal carried any weight, half of LA would be kicked out of the country. PS: fire marshal has one "l"...as in USC-OJ campus loser.

Wow, Fallacious Loser.
Facts just aren't your speciality, are they?
Better luck the next time you are allowed your supervised hour on the internet.
PS. Small doesn't have a semi-colon in it. Ask the nice man in the white coat standing over your shoulder to help you spellcheck, 'kay?

62-21; I know it wasn't against Idaho or Nebraska. But, we play them in a couple of weeks; and 62-21 scares me.
So, get one of the pencils out of your pocket protector....

If Faded Love is too polite to say it, I'm not.
Up your today's Southern Cal's opponent.
Remember, you're the team with Notre Dame on it's cupcake schedule.

79-10; 51-13; 54-3; 62-21.
We have to play these guys in a couple weeks.
You get to play Notre Dame, Idaho, Nebraska, Stanford, Arizona, UCLA,
Washington State, etc. etc. etc. Pretty soft for a "Number 1."

2. Ohio State v. Minnesota
3. LSU v. Tulane
4. USC v. Washington
5. Wisconsin v. Michigan State
6. West Virginia v. South Florida
7. Oklahoma v. Colorado
8. Rutgers v. Maryland
9. Kentucky v. Florida Atlantic
10. UCLA v. Oregon State
(App. State lost to Wofford, Saturday;

Dear Armadillo/Faded Love/Escapee from Mental Institution:
Troll feeding time is over. Go back to your cave like a good little sock puppet, y'all hear?
