Let Kiki de Montparnasse spice up your stay at the Mondrian Hotel

-4
The Mondrian Hotel on the Sunset Strip is reloading its RELOAD retail series with a Kiki de Montparnasse pop-up shop, now open through Feb. 28, stocking the brand’s luxury lingerie loungewear and Romantic Concierge service featuring Kiki “specialists,” who will assist browsers in planning romantic getaways.

Kiki de Montparnasse, which debuted its romantic concept shop in New York’s SoHo, carries bath and body goods with natural aphrodisiacs along with vintage erotica and gifts such as 24-karat gold handcuffs. The boutique, that also has a location on Melrose Avenue, is named for photographer Man Ray’s muse and seeks to recapture the elegance of a Parisian boudoir during the prewar era of Henry Miller and Anais Nin.

The Mondrian’s interior designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz had a hand in the Kiki de Montparnasse temporary boutique with touches such as a black feather pendant light, mauve pillows and French toile wall coverings.

The Kiki pop-up will also carry a hotel-appropriate lounge collection that can go from poolside to an evening dinner.

The Mondrian will offer special Kiki de Montparnasse packages starting this holiday season through Valentine’s Day.

WeHo retailers unite for a holiday shopping event this Thursday

Beckley Retailers in West Hollywood's bustling shopping corridor -- radiating out from the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Robertson Boulevard -- are hoping to lure out recession-fatigued shoppers with a neighborhood holiday shopping event, Holiday Walk on the Avenues, Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Organized by members of the Avenues of Art & Design neighborhood, which officially organized in 1996, the second annual event features extended business hours (most stores will stay open until 9 p.m.), special discounts and -- everywhere you turn -- free punch, champagne and edibles.

The streets will be festooned with decorations and lights, and you'll likely run into roaming carolers and Santa Clauses en route. There will also be gift-wrapping stations here and there -- with the wrapping station at coffee shop Kaffe Wien benefiting the kids at West Hollywood Elementary School.

The laundry list of participating stores include fashion outposts Co Co de Mer, Kreiss, Beckley, Alpha Gear for Gents, Alberta Ferretti, Soolip, John Varvatos, Kitson and Kitson Men, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Le Bra Lingerie and Steven Alan. (Suspiciously missing from that list are Stella McCartney and Balenciaga). Home design and fine art stalwarts include Hamilton-Selway Fine Art, Robert Kuo, 655 Home, and DIVA/B&B Italia.

Gale Parker's Clothespin opens in West Hollywood

On a champagne-soaked Thursday evening last week, Gale Parker’s Clothespin opened with cheerful laughs and a multi-generational crowd perusing her new store. The upscale West Hollywood locale on Melrose Avenue is Parker’s first store, but the New Yorker is far from being a novice in fashion. The designer once served as model/muse for the likes of Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as the design director for Ralph Lauren women’s collection.

Parker’s vibrant printed dresses, blouses and skirts looked like items girls would steal from their mother’s closets on a warm summer day. It’s easy to picture a wispy surfer girl walking down Abbot Kinney in a Gale Parker design, or a Malibu mom lounging by the playground in the loose comfort of Clothespin’s feminine wares.

“My mother and Teen Vogue’s blogger Jazzi McGilbert both came in here and wanted everything. Can you believe it?” said Noelle Valdivia, a member of the Clothespin team.

Louboutin open its doors in West Hollywood

IMG_0689

I’ve always loved the stretch of Robertson Boulevard between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue — the site of cute restaurants, home interior stores and several high-end shops that have popped up in recent years.

And with the new Christian Louboutin boutique kicking off its opening last night with a shopping event complete with champagne foot baths, the block has even more appeal, even if all you are in the market for is a little drooling and window shopping.IMG_0688

The quaint, two-story shop with a charming courtyard filled up quickly Thursday night, with several die-hard Louboutin shoppers and plenty of people who mostly gravitated to the champagne table.  Party guest Renges Fabris donned a sparkly pair of silver Louboutins from last fall, but has already scooped up about seven pairs from this season and was eyeing a pair of hot pink, patent leather heels from the holiday collection.  “They’re like the original Barbie shoes,” Fabris said.

Upstairs, the usually closed-off VIP room was set up to give guests champagne foot baths.  Rose petals and champagne were poured into tubs while ladies had their tootsies pampered.

And as if you needed more décor than the shoes themselves, the shop is filled with fun and unique treasures from Mr. Louboutin's travels, far and near.  A beaded zebra-print chair and a giant white bird statue were hauled in from the Rose Bowl flea market and hand-blown glass bubbles made in Syria hang on the entire stairwell.  The space is one of the largest Louboutin boutiques in the world, modeled after the shop on Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Paris.  Bigger store just means more shoes to love.
