Farrah Fawcett poster image reissued for charity -- on a T-shirt [Updated]

Farrah Fawcett Tshirt for Charity
The famous Farrah Fawcett photo -- the one taken by Bruce McBroom of the actress in a red bathing suit posed in front of a striped blanket that would go on to sell more than 12 million posters -- is back in circulation -- on an Urban Outfitters T-shirt.

In a deal put together by the Farrah Fawcett Foundation and Culver City-based branding agency Brand Sense Partners, the $24 men's T-shirt is being sold at the retailer's bricks-and-mortar stores and online, with a portion of proceeds going to fund the foundation's alternative cancer research efforts.

According to the Foundation, several months before Fawcett passed away in 2009, the actress had finally obtained legal rights to the red bathing suit photograph*, which had long the subject of legal wrangling. "She'd wanted to do this for a long time," said the organization's president Alana Stewart.

Stewart said that now that Fawcett's estate owns the rights to that iconic image, it can be used on a variety of products, with a portion of proceeds helping fund the foundation that bears her name (which Stewart, who was a close friend of Fawcett's for more than 30 years, says is in accordance with the wishes of the late actress).

The Urban Outfitters T-shirt is the first of the licensed products bearing the image to hit the market since the actress' passing nearly three years ago (although, in 2011, Mattel did release a collectible Farrah Barbie doll based on the image -- posed in a red bathing suit against a striped blanket --with a portion of proceeds going to the foundation), and Stewart hints that it won't be the last.

"There are some things in the works," she said, "but what's really important to me is that it needs to be exclusive and classy -- something that Farrah would have approved of."

Although Stewart declined to say what percentage of the proceeds from the sale of each $24 shirt will go to the Farrah Fawcett Foundation's cancer awareness and research efforts or estimate how much the T-shirt deal might ultimately be worth, she pointed out that sales have already been surprisingly brisk.

"I don't think she could have imagined that all these young kids would be going into Urban Outfitters and buying a a T-shirt with her picture on it," Stewart said of her late friend. "I bet she'd think that was pretty cool."

[*UPDATED 5/2/2012, 4:37 p.m.: An earlier draft of this post misstated when Fawcett obtained legal rights to the use of the photograph. According to a spokesperson for the Foundation, the issue was settled several months prior to her 2009 passing, not afterward, as originally indicated.]

Frugal Fashion: Hilary Rhoda in animal print at 'Young Adult' screening

Hrhoda

If you've flipped through a fashion magazine in the last five years, you're sure to recognize  Hilary Rhoda's face. She's the all-American beauty with the signature killer eyebrows. At 18, the Maryland native captivated the fashion world when Nicolas Ghesquière handpicked her to walk in the Balenciaga spring show in 2005.

Since then, Rhoda has appeared in campaigns for Pucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Givenchy. She has walked the runways for the world's top designer labels, including John Galliano, Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld and Oscar de La Renta, to name a few.

Off the runway, Rhoda has mastered the art of understated elegance. She manages to look nothing less than perfect whether she's wearing a gala gown or jeans and a T-shirt.

She recently made an appearance at the Cinema Society and Dior Beauty screening of "Young Adult" at the Tribeca Grand Screening Room in New York. She was contemporary casual chic in a pair of stiletto camel leopard-print jeans by power design duo Current Elliott, a silk button-down blouse, blazer and classic pointy black heels. She accessorized with a thick black belt and cozy camel beige cowl neck scarf.

Hilarypants

Animal prints are everywhere this fall, with snakeskin, cheetah, zebra and leopard prints showing up on clothing, accessories and even iPad cases. These prints continue to be hot items for the holiday season. For Rhoda's jungle look, get her Current Elliott stiletto camel leopard print jeans at Nordstrom for $198. For some budget-friendly options, try the Andrew Charles animal printed skinny twill jeans in a snakeskin print from Macys.com for $59.99, snow leopard printed jean from Delias.com for $39.50 or the Tripp NYC leopard jean for $66 from Urbanoutfitters.com.

Hilarytopandshoes

Rhoda kept the rest of her outfit subtle, letting the leopard print remain the protagonist. For a similar tame blouse get the Sparkle & Fade boxy chiffon blouse for $59 from Urbanoutfitters.com. And for a classic black heel, try the  Flax Ninewest pump on Piperlime.com for $69.

Hilaryaccessories

Accessorize like Rhoda with the Frenchi waffle knit infinity scarf for $22 from Nordstrom.com and a classic  Leather belt from Gap.com for $16.50 or the Pieces Flamini belt for $18.18 from Asos.com.

Each piece is a versatile closet staple you’ll be able to recycle throughout the seasons. Animal print for spring … why not?

For more tips, resident stylist and market editor Melissa Magsaysay gives us the scoop on how to wear the season's hottest animal prints.

Frugal Fashion: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is sheerly beautiful

RosieThe new film "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," the third installment in the robot action series, was the top-grossing movie in the country last weekend. Audiences were treated to fighting robots in 3-D and a new leading lady, British Victoria's Secret model turned actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Whiteley replaces Megan Fox as Shia Labeouf's new love interest in the film. For the movie's media tour, the 24-year-old made waves on red carpets around the world with her statuesque, model physique and killer sense of style.

While in Brazil, she wore a black chiffon, belted Michael Kors fall 2011 dress; in Berlin, a sparkly metallic backless Naeem Khan design; and in London, a Christopher Bailey custom-designed Burberry navy gown.

At the Moscow International Film festival, which opened with a screening of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," Huntington-Whiteley towered over the turquoise carpet in a weightless vision of chiffon. The Gucci gown, from the label's fall 2011 collection, features a sheer, playful, sexy skirt and a one-shoulder chartreuse top. The summer-perfect color blooms from the floral embellishments for an effect that is simply stunning.

Rosieskirts

To get Huntington-Whiteley's look without a designer-gown price tag, try a sheer black maxi skirt. American Apparel makes a full-length chiffon skirt for $46, or try the Sparkle and Fade maxi pleated chiffon skirt from UrbanOutfitters.com for $59 for a more textured look.

Rosietops

For a top, you'll need a one-shoulder design in a striking color. If you like the dramatic look of ruffles, try the Asos ruffle detail one-shoulder top for $13.79. For something a bit more subtle, but with the same color profile, get the Cheap Monday Tanya one-shoulder tank top from UrbanOutfitters.com for $30.

Rosiebelts

Tuck the top into a pair of hot pants, like the Lace dolphin shorts from Forever21.com for $13.80 and accessorize with a skinny black belt. For a better buy, you can go for a set of two with the Apt. 9 leopard skinny belt set for $24 from Kohl's or the Beamish black and white belt set from Aldo for $20.

Frugal Fashion: "Bad Teacher" Cameron Diaz rocks a summer romper

CameronIt's hard to imagine actress Cameron Diaz in anything but a snow white bikini, gripping a surfboard as a Charlie's Angel on the beach. Sure it was for a film, but Diaz is famous for wearing clothing that accentuates her best assets, both on and off the set. At nearly every major appearance, Diaz is sure to be in a look that gives more than a peek at her killer legs and super-hero toned arms.

The 39-year-old has been busy promoting her new film "Bad Teacher," which hits theaters June 24, starring opposite Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake.

At a photo call for the film in Madrid, Diaz showed off her signature legs, looking summer-ready in a crisp white Equipment romper, fiery red belt and pink tweed blazer by Elizabeth and James. She accessorized with a navy and gold braided necklace by Giles & Brother and strappy heels by Sergio Rossi.

Diaz' romper could actually be the most versatile summer closet staple. Wear it over a bathing suit by the pool or go effortlessly glam like Diaz with the right accessories. With so many colors, patterns and styles available it might be hard to narrow it down to just one, but a plain white version is always a good investment. For a sleeveless style go for the Planet Gold romper from Macys.com for $14.99. For something a little more casual try the Sparkle and Fade Dolphin short romper from Urbanoutfitters.com for $59 or the Roxy Rollick romper from Roxy.com for $39.50. If you're looking for a little more detail the Asos linen bandeau pleated short playsuit features a flirty bow detail for $60.34.

Cameronrompers

The best part of Diaz's outfit is definitely her belt. The color screams "look at me" and it gets ample attention against the white romper. For a similar effect get the Pieces Lisbeth slim jeans belt for $12.07 from Asos.com or the Unisex solid web belt with leather buckle from American Apparel for $30. To go for Cameron's chunky belt look get the Wide quilted belt from Armani Exchange for $58.

Cameronbelts
It's always nice to have a light jacket for when those warm summer days turn into heavenly nights. The Asos soft draped suit blazer in fuchsia for $86.20 will keep you warm and add a nice pop of color. For something a little redder, snag the Carmine blazer from Anthropologie.com for $98 or the P.M.E. blazer in houndstooth red and white from Yoox.com for $160.

Cameronjackets

Wear your new romper with anything from a pair of strappy sandals to your highest heels.

Frugal Fashion: Rihanna pre-'S&M' at the Billboard Music Awards

Rihanna The fashion at music events can be transfixing -- more compelling, at times, than the Oscars. The attendees seem a little less stuffy; the dresses and personalities sometimes border on outrageous; and there never seems to be a shortage of moments where I find myself thinking, "What was she thinking?"

Last Sunday's Billboard Music Awards were no exception. Model Nayer draped herself in mens' neck ties, Sinbad attempted to rock a bejeweled pirate blouse, and Fergie went dominatrix in a Hervé Léger by Max Azria Atelier mini. On stage shades of pure white popped up in the form of a military trench for Mary J. Blige, a Michael Jackson-ish suit for Far East Movement frontman Kev Nish and a futuristic Tron-inspired number for Nicki Minaj.

Fire-haired songstress Rihanna, who took home awards for radio artist of the year and best female artist, stole the show in white leather lingerie for a steamy performance of "S&M."

But before Rihanna saddled up for some hip thrusting, pole dancing and a pillow fight with Britney Spears, viewers got to see a very different, much sleeker side of the artist when she walked the red carpet in a tailored men's Max Azria white suit, super-low V-cut blouse, a gold tassel necklace and nude Christian Louboutin heels.

Rihanna's menswear look is sexy and sophisticated, making her all-white attire perfect for your upcoming summer soirees. For a similar style jacket try the Linen boyfriend blazer by Armani Exchange for $130, linen blend blazer from Forever21.com for $27.80, or the Epaulet blazer by Calvin Klein for $99.

Rihblazers

For the trousers, you'll want a pair that is high-waisted for more of a feminine touch. Armani Exchange makes a great pair of trousers called the 20th pleated trouser for $88 or try the Nic + Zoe cotton side zip pants for $88.20 on Zappos.com. This look would also work with a pair of wide-leg trousers like the Bebe sailor pant for $54.99.

Rihpants

Rihanna's shirt features an extremely low V-cut. This may be appropriate for an awards show but for your next outing you can go as low or as high as you want with these frugal finds: The Sheer pocket shirt from the Gap for $59.95, Bellatrix pleated blouse from Nordstrom.com for $78, or the Sparkle & Fade Dolman blouse from Urbanoutfitters.com for $29.99.

Rihtops

Tassels have come back in a big way this season, adding a fun and frilly touch of '70s art deco. For a silver option wear the Twisted dropped-chain necklace from Charlotte Russe for $7.50 or for gold, the mesh loop tassel necklace from Topshop.com for $30.

Frugal Fashion: 'Scream 4's' Lucy Hale goes tribal at a Nylon magazine bash

LucyhaleLucy Hale's portrayal of the resident high school freak turned chic Aria Montgomery on ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" has people outside the tween audience bracket taking notice. Nylon magazine featured the young star as someone to watch in their May "hot young Hollywood" issue and she appears in the new "Scream 4" film, giving her vocal chords a workout.

The 21-year-old Southern belle (Hale is from Memphis) may be queen of teen melodrama hits like "Pretty Little Liars," "Privileged" and the "OC," but she shows here she can rule on the red carpet as well.

At a Nylon Hollywood bash, the red-carpet newcomer appeared to be more of an old pro when she arrived in a weightless super low V-neck white blouse strategically tucked into a skintight BCBG tribal print skirt, a chunky woven black belt and vertiginously high black booties.

Tribal print skirts, swimsuits, dresses and even leggings are all the rage for summer with patterns that are at times raw and a little '80s. Hale's skirt print has pretty pops of neon yellow, giving her black and white print some gusto.

This is technically a frugal column but it doesn't mean we can't splurge once in a while, especially when that splurge is so readily available: Hale's  BCBG skirt is for sale at Bloomingdales for $178. For an even bolder color and print -- and at a truly frugal price -- get the red tribal print skirt from Forever 21 for just $17.80. If you like the black and white look, Urban Outfitters carries a black and white print skirt for $39 in a body-hugging longer length.

Lucyskirts

Hale's lightweight white blouse creates the perfect contrast to her body-con skirt. For a similar look get the Shelly top by Guess for $39, Verlain tank by Twenty8Twelve by S. Miller for $30 from TheOutnet.com, or the Sangu Draped beaded Rachel top by Rachel Roy at Macy's for $79.

Lucytops

Hale's woven belt is a great way to tie the flowy blouse and tight mini together. Any chunky black belt you might already own would look great with this look but if you're in the market to buy a belt, here are some fab finds: 2b woven accent belt from Bebe.com for $9.95, basket weave belt from Forever 21 for $6.80, or the Fashion Focus black woven belt from Bluefly.com for $22.99.

Lucybelts

Hale's shoes add a lot of edginess and character to her party outfit and go beyond the average black pair of booties. Her shoes feature a high ankle and an extra high heel. You could pull off this look with some straightforward booties but why not expirement a little? The following shoes will give some height and edge: The Amaze strapy bootie from Ninewest for $59.40, Envy women's throttle peep-toe ankle bootie for $62.40 from Endless.com, Chinese Laundry hide and seek bootie from Famousfootwear.com for $59.99, or the Kelsey Dagger shoes, Innis wedge booties from Macy's for $62.50.

[Updated] Frugal Fashion: 'The Green Lantern's' Blake Lively goes all white at CinemaCon

BlakeThe term fashion faux pas seems to be completely unknown to "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively. Whether she's sitting front row at a runway show, splashed across the cover of a magazine or making a red carpet appearance, Lively never ceases to impress the most discerning fashion palettes. This will be Lively's hat trick edition of Frugal Fashion, proving the 23-year-old has a serious knack for dolling up on the red carpet and that maybe there is a little something to Anna Wintour's fascination with the young starlet.

Lively stars in the latest DC Comic-turned-film venture "The Green Lantern," out June 17, as the feisty siren Carol Ferris opposite Ryan Reynolds. When she hit the red carpet for CinemaCon in Las Vegas -- the annual gathering of cinema owners and operators (formerly called ShoWest) -- was she attempting to hide her future as the film's star sapphire villain under her all-white, angelic disguise? Or did Lively's wardrobe choice have a little something to do with the weather? The comic fan in me votes for the first option, but feel free to decide for yourself.

Lively looked ready for summer in an all-white lace uber-mini and sheer top ensemble by Dolce & Gabbana, white blazer with black trim and cream colored suede booties with cleavage.

For a lace mini that will show off some sun-kissed leg get the Lace patch pocket skirt from Forever 21 for $13.50, Lush lace skirt from Piperlime.com for $34, or the Jack by BB Dakota Charles lace skirt from Piperlime.com for $59.

Blakeskirts

Get Lively's all white look with a sheer top like the Swell Erika shirt from Swell.com for $36.50, Sparkle and Fade linen chiffon band oversized top from Urbanoutfitters.com for $14.99, or the silk Georgette blouse from Forever 21 for $24.80.

Blakeshirts

A white, fitted blazer can be a lasting, year-round investment. Bloomingdales carries the Aqua three-quarter sleeve linen blazer for $88, Anthropologie has the Late seating blazer for $98, or if you want to go for Lively's look with the black trim, try the Steve Madden V-neck three-quarter sleeve double breasted button piped fitted blazer from Macy's for $40.99.

Blakeblazers

If showing too much leg or a low-cut blouse makes you feel uncomfortable maybe a little peek-a-boo shoe cleavage is something fun you can play with, even with a longer skirt. Lively's suede booties have an extra low dip. Get the same effect with the MRKT Sophie boot from DSW for $79.95 or the Civico 10 Milan bootie also from DSW for $59.95.

[UPDATED 9:30 AM 04/6/2011: The Green Lantern is a DC Comic, not a Marvel comic.]

Frugal Fashion: Emma Roberts goes girly at an Oscar soiree

EmmaIf British fashion goddess Alexa Chung and American golden girl Michelle Williams had a style-child, it would be Emma Roberts. This DNA wonder mash-up is the result of Roberts' slightly indie wild-child style artfully whirled around her super girly outfits. And let's not forget who her aunt is - pretty woman Julia Roberts, who comes from the same favorable real gene pool.

The 20-year-old actress, singer and songwriter, who has already mastered the art of captivating the tween movie audience, is moving on to become a well-dressed style leader for the rest of us with fashion choices that would rival the likes of Serena Van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf. Frequently featured on InStyle magazine's Look of the Day feature, Roberts can always be found looking fab in the latest designer wear on a red carpet somewhere.

She looked ultra girly at the Chanel and Charles Finch pre-Oscar dinner party celebrating fashion and film at Madeo restaurant in Los Angeles. The young starlet wore a cream-colored bow-tie blouse, black shorts, a dainty cardigan, weather-appropriate tights and black satin pumps. The bows on her blouse and shorts are ultra feminine and chic, the look is age appropriate and the tousled hair and red lipstick are a double win.

Roberts' outfit would be perfect for any spring fling and according to our own very stylish Melissa Magsaysay, shorts are definitely in for spring. Roberts chose a simple black pair with a bow, a great addition to any wardrobe. The Limited makes a similar pair, also with a bow, called the Cassidy elastic waistband short for $39.90. If a bow doesn't suit your taste, maybe some lace will? Urban Outfitters carries the Nom De Plume Kit short with pretty lace trim for $19.99.

Emmashorts

Roberts' blouse evoked a feminine feel without resembling the outfits of your childhood dolls. For an equally flirty blouse with a bow, try the Asos short sleeve chiffon mix pussy bow blouse for $35.86, Cooperative Peter Pan bow blouse from Urban Outfitters for $44.99, or the Asos pussy bow blouse for $53.79. These blouses will add character to any outfit without going overboard with the bow detail.

Emmashirts

A simple black cardigan is a great piece to have on hand for any occasion. To wear with a dressier top and shorts a shorter cardigan will work nicely. Old Navy makes a satin-trim rib-knit cardigan for just $10.50, Ann Taylor Loft has a long-sleeve crew neck cardigan for $39.50 and J.Jill makes the essential cardigan for $29.99. A small price to pay for a piece that will complement 90% of your existing closet.

Emmasweaters

Put on your new frugal finds with some basic black tights and heels you already own, and you're ready for a soiree of your own.

On sale: Urban Outfitters' louche tees, tanks and tops

L.A It's pretty much always T-shirt weather in L.A. — even if said tee is peeking out of a cardigan. Which is why Urban Outfitters' post-holiday sale might be worthy of your attention.

The chain store has marked down a handful of its T-shirts, tanks and jersey tops to around $9.99 while supplies last.

There are oversized graphic tees, emblazoned with slogans ranging from the retro ("Lovely Day for a Guinness") to the ironic ("Le Freak") from brands including Truly Madly Deeply and BDG. Also on hand are simple, elegant tanks,  and jazzier "going out" tops including a $9.99 striped tank with ruffles and a split-side tank top bearing an Op Art-style triangle graphic — yours for a mere $4.99.
