It’s been said that when it comes to Giles Deacon, there’s no pinning down just one look or direction, which is why I’ve been such a fan since his days consulting for Luella Bartley on her former handbag line and collaborating on accessories for Mulberry nearly a decade ago. Deacon keeps us guessing but always manages to infuse some wit and sophistication into everything he does, most recently with his own collection, Giles.
News that the British designer was doing a tight capsule collection for Nine West surfaced in January. The line will be available online and in stores starting Aug. 15.
The look of the shoes is decidedly subdued, which is perfect for fall. The Layla ankle boot ($149) is a simple style with a stack heel and multiple buckle straps. It looks versatile enough for day-to-night events. The low cut of the top of the boot keeps legs looking long. More buckles and straps abound on the Polly wedge peep-toe shoe ($129). Both have a super-high heel but without looking too treacherous or over the top. The lines are sleek and the price is right.
Deacon has also adorned a couple pieces with a drawing of a little orange mouse character he created called Eek, who peers out from tote bags and hangs as a pendant on necklaces as well as expresses Deacon’s signature whimsy.
