Your morning fashion and beauty report: Wear Red Day aims for the heart, Barbie heads for a museum and Kenneth Cole makes a Twitter faux pas

Ared Are you wearing red? You should be: Feb. 4 is National Wear Red Day, to raise awareness about heart disease in women. Even though heart disease is the number one killer of women, many women -- and even doctors -- aren't aware of the dangers and symptoms. [Squidoo]

Barbie is many things, but is she art? Maybe. At any rate, my favorite fashion plate is joining the permanent collection at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which my colleague Jori Finkel says has acquired the original doll in time for its big fall show "California Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way." Using social media to market your company can be fun, but it's also full of pitfalls, especially if you don't think before you tweet. Swimwear firm Kenneth Cole found out the hard way with a tone-deaf tweet Thursday that outraged the Twitterverse. "Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online," the misbegotten tweet said. Later the company issued an apology but not before the backlash went viral, a fake Kenneth Cole Twitter account attracted 6,000 followers and began spewing parodies. [Slate]

PBS plans to air a documentary, “Nancy Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime,” at 10 p.m. Sunday, with the look at the former first lady timed to coincide with President Ronald Reagan's birthday centennial weekend. The documentary reportedly treats the former first lady's vaunted fashion sense -- she was one of the most stylish first ladies in history -- as more liability than asset. [WWD]

"Black Swan" chief costume designer Amy Westcott has finally spoken up about the flap over whether Rodarte and the Mulleavy sisters should get more credit for the ballet costumes they designed for the film. Westcott's not happy with the turn things have taken. [Styleite]

Your morning fashion & beauty report: Polo in the Palisades, football fashion and 'Full Metal Jacket' for your fingernails

Nars
Q: What do you wear to watch the second-most handsome man in the world play polo? A: Whatever he wants you to wear. But seriously, Nacho Figueras (model/polo player and the face of Ralph Lauren fragrances) and his one-man campaign to mainstream the sport of kings hoofs it into Pacific Palisades on Sunday for a match. And if you're still in a fashion quandary, our own Melissa Magsaysay gets some pointers. [All The Rage]

Don't expect any "wardrobe malfunctions" at halftime with the new women's apparel line from the NFL that's rolling out to 3,000 retailers nationwide for fall. "Fit for You" clothing isn't just sideline style for football wives, it's actually being modeled by football wives, too. [New York Post].

Chanel acknowledged that the military trend extends to nail varnish with the recent rollout of its khaki colors. Now it's Nars, which has created a line of nail polishes inspired by classic films (many of them war films) including Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" (a silver-gray color), Robert Altman's "MASH" (a coppery-gold), and Zulu, a hunter green shade named after a 1964 British film about the Anglo-Zulu War. The makeup at Marc Jacobs: Glossy green eyes and matte lips

Marc Jacobs runway looks Marc Jacobs' spring-summer 2011 collection may have channeled Jodi Foster in "Taxi Driver," but the show's lead makeup artist, François Nars, homed in on another iconic look from the '70s when it came to designing the face.

"The look is very reminiscent of Anjelica Huston in the 1970s -- bleached Image013  brows and deep eyes," said Nars in a press statement. "I wanted them to look like iconic models from the '70s but with a modern approach. Marc had ideas of what he wanted the makeup to look like -- mimicking the colors of the collection but not matching exactly."

The statement here was deep, smoldering eyes and orange-tinged lips. Nars used Night Porter eyeshadow on the lids, along with an olive-green color from the Nouveau Monde Duo eyeshadow palette, which is a new product for spring 2011. Lashes were pumped way up with Larger than Life volumizing mascara.

The adobe-colored lips were a mix of Volga pure matte lipstick, African Queen lip liner and an eyeliner color called Mambo. Matte lips are a big beauty trend for fall, and judging from the look on Jacobs' spring runway, they may continue to be popular, just in brighter shades.

For the cheeks, Nars used his signature Orgasm blush. Its peachy-gold glow seems tailor made for Jacobs' collection, which is filled with vivid shades of orange, gold, brown and purple.

Crimson tide: The most beguiling red lipsticks for summer

Lipsticks
Beauty articles on summer makeup always teach us how to wield various bronzers to affect a just-off-the-beach look. But since we all now know that tanning is akin to smoking Lucky Strikes, healthwise (and faking the look only perpetuates the "healthy glow" myth), perhaps it's time for a new approach to hot-weather beauty.

Strong brows and smoky eyes dominate the runway at Thakoon

Elements of the '80s are all over the fall '09 runways and in addition to the strNars_thakoonong shoulders and day-glo colors, makeup is also taking cues from the heavily made up faces of the “me” generation.

A model walks the runway at the Thakoon Fall 2009 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Eyebeam on February 16, 2009 in New York City NARS Cosmetics created the “face” for the Thakoon show. Lead artist Diane Kendal based the makeup on the collection, which was inspired by the 1940s surrealist images of photographer Lee Miller, combined with 1980s rock 'n' roll glam. This translates as smoky eyes, full brows and downplayed lips. And since buying clothes from the runway may not be in most budgets this year, the makeup might be the most affordable aspect to emulate. Here is Kendal’s step-by-step lesson on how to get the look:

Face:

• Use a minimal amount of NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (coming out for fall 2009).

• Lightly stroke NARS Blush in Gilda on the apples of the cheeks.

Eyes:

• Use NARS Eyeliner Pencil in Mambo to line upper lashes and crease.

• Blend over entire lid and up to brows, keeping dense color by lash line.

• With Mambo, line lower lashes and gently blend.

• Use NARS Single Eye shadow in Bali to fill in brows.

• Draw a very thin line on upper lashes with NARS Eyeliner Stylo in Black (coming out for fall 2009).

Lips:

• Apply NARS Lip Therapy Treatment in Rain to entire lip.

• Lightly pat a small amount of concealer over Rain to mute the color.
