Kendall Jenner face of Beverly Center's Fashion's Night Out ads

Kendall Jenner for Fashion's Night Out
Kendall Jenner, of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" reality TV fame, has been tapped as the face of the Beverly Center's 2012 Fashion's Night Out advertising campaign.

According to the shopping center's reps, the16-year-old offspring of Bruce and Kris Jenner, older sister of Kylie Jenner and half-sister to Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, will appear on assorted and sundry billboards, in print and across various social media platforms in the run-up to the fourth annual global shop-stravaganza, which is scheduled to take place Sept. 6.

The advertising campaign, which depicts the Wilhelmina model kicking back in an over-sized shoe box, was shot by photographer Moshe Brakha and styled by George Blodwell. In the ads, Jenner wears an orange haute couture gown by Georges Chakra paired with a pair of purple Giuseppe Zanotti stiletto heels.

This year, the Beverly Center, which traditionally goes all-in for the evening of extended shopping hours and special retail events, has two fashion shows, a video address from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and yet-to-be-announced celebrity appearances on the drawing board.

Katie Cleary, Joanna Krupa call on Kardashians to stop fur sales

Models Katie Cleary and Joanna Krupa reportedly plan to deliver a petition to the Dash clothing store in Calabasas, Calif., on Monday with more than 140,000 signatures protesting fur sales
Models Katie Cleary and Joanna Krupa reportedly plan to deliver a petition to the Dash clothing store in Calabasas, Calif., on Monday with more than 140,000 signatures protesting fur sales.

The boutique is the original store opened by the Kardashian sisters. Cleary and Krupa said they are delivering the petition along with activists for online social welfare community Care2 because they believe that "women in the spotlight have a responsibility to stand up for animals," according to a news release.

The release goes on to quote Krupa as saying, "One of the most influential families in the entertainment industry that could help give animals a voice on a large scale are the Kardashians. As a fashion-forward family with their clothing line in stores all over the U.S., they have the power to influence millions of people around the world."

Until recently, Khloe Kardashian, who says she is anti-fur, was a supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. However, she withdrew her support after a PETA activist hit sister Kim  -- who was named PETA's "Celebrity Grinch" of 2011 for her fondness for fur -- with a flour bomb at a public event last week.

Krupa is quoted on HollyScoop.com saying tha Khloe is a hypocrite to say she is anti-fur when the Kardashians' boutiques sell fur items. As for Kim? Krupa told HollyScoop she deserved worse: “"t least egg yolk or paint! She got away easy with just flour. The attacker is a hero."

So it seems as if the gloves are off and the fur is flying, so to speak.

Fashion: A diamond ring? Are Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus engaged?

Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus
A sparkling diamond spotted on Miley Cyrus' left ring finger Saturday night started tongues wagging about whether she and beau Liam Hemsworth of "The Hunger Games" are engaged. A source described as "close to the couple," who have been dating since 2009, said they aren't. Time will tell. But it always triggers rumors for a single celeb to put a diamond on that finger. Cyrus and Hemsworth were attending Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night XIII in Phoenix. [People]

A Night at Sardi's
A galaxy of actors and comedians (and a few singers, too) belted out showtunes at last week's "A Night at Sardi's" 20th annual fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Assn. Among those taking the stage were Kristen Bell of “House of Lies;” Zachary Levi of “Chuck”; Melora Hardin of “The Office”; Josh Radnor of “How I Met Your Mother”; Marilu Henner of “Unforgettable”; Jon Lovitz of “Saturday Night Live”; Wayne Brady of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”; and Lamorne Morris of “New Girl.”  An appropriately costumed cast of "The Big Bang Theory" sang "Let the Sunshine In" and "Aquarius" from "Hair." [Society News LA]

A new fashion app for the iPhone launches Monday and will allow users to post and share photos of clothing along with purchase information. The app, called Trendabl, is described as similar to Twitter but "tailored to fashion." Individuals can share info with friends, and celebrities, bloggers and fashion labels can use the app to promote themselves. Reportedly among those already signed on are Whitney Port, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Nicky Hilton, Barney's New York, Diane von Furstenberg, Brad Goreski, Michael Kors and Current/Elliott. [WWD]

Bethenny Frankle has introduced a new product line, Skinnygirl Beauty, encompassing creams, lotions, scrubs, cleansers and a little makeup. It's available at Wal-Mart and there are already plans to add more products later this spring. [People]

Kim Kardshian says she plans to beef up security after last week's "flour-bombing" incident, and after thinking about it, may press charges against her attacker. Initially she had said she wouldn't bring charges, but she has realized it would be not good for people to think they can get away with such things. [Styleite]

Fashion News: Kim Kardashian 'flour-bombed' at fragrance launch

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian's latest fragrance launch went awry when a woman threw white powder (later determined to be flour) all over her as she arrived at the London Hotel West Hollywood. Kim, shown in photo covered in the flour, was a trouper, though. She declined to press charges, changed clothes and went on with the launch party for her new True Reflection scent. [CBS]

When "The Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence went on "The Late Show With David Letterman" on Tuesday and said she looked like a troll, she protesteth too much, says my colleague Alexandra Le Tellier. While some commentators found it refreshing, LeTellier points out that "when someone as beautiful and talented as Lawrence admits her insecurities ... it fuels a culture of insecurity along with self-destructive 'pro ana' sites and 'Am I ugly?' videos." [Los Angeles Times]

Elizabeth Banks

Lawrence's costar in "The Hunger Games" Elizabeth Banks, above, was among celebrities who attended Restoration Hardware's party Thursday night celebrating EXPOSED, the company’s spring collection of  home furnishings at the Los Angeles store. Banks looked notably sleeker than Effie Trinket, the character she plays in the film, below, both in dress and hairstyle. Other stars at the event included Malin Akerman, Abbie Cornish and Milla Jovovich. [Society News LA]

Fashion News: Will Reggie Bush testify about Kim Kardashian?

The Kardashians

-- Old Navy apparently wants to call Miami Dolphins' running back Reggie Bush as a witness in its defense of a $20-million lawsuit Kim Kardshian filed against it for using a singer/dancer who resembles her in its commercials. Kardashian's argument was that doing so "caused confusion in the marketplace" and violated her intellectual property rights. In other words, the only one who should make money for looking like Kim Kardashian is Kim Kardashian. Now Old Navy's parent company, Gap, is reportedly investigating Kardashian's worth, talent and reputation. Why is Bush on the witness list? Apparently because he dated Kardashian -- and later Melissa Molinaro, the singer/dancer featured in the commericals. [Hollywood Reporter]

-- The men's collection Vivienne Westwood showed during the just-wrapped Milan Fashion Week was inspired by David Attenborough’s documentary series, "The Frozen Planet."  [Los Angeles Times]

-- Jason Wu went on the "Today" show Wednesday to show off some of his upcoming collection for Target on real women. The capsule collection is slated to go on sale Feb. 5. [Fashionista]

-- Another former assistant to celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe is going to star in a fashion-reality TV show. Taylor Jacobson is one of four stylists who will be featured on "LA Style," an Oxygen show that is to air sometime later this year. Brad Goreski's "It's a Brad, Brad World," recently debuted on Bravo. [Fashionista]

-- Instead of a celebrity, Marc Jacobs features 19-year-old Chinese model Xiao Wen Ju in its spring ad campaign. [The Cut]

-- Ralph Toledano, chief executive and chairman of Chloe, is leaving to join the luxury conglomerate Puig and serve as president of John Paul Gaultier. [WWD] (Subscription required)

-- A parish commissioner in Shreveport, La., is pushing for an ordinance to ban wearing pajamas -- or anything sold in the sleepwear department -- in public. (I wonder what that could mean for PajamaJeans?) Shreveport already has a "no-sag" ordinance, intended to keep pants up around the waist. [Shreveport Times]

-- The commissioner's initiative probably won't be enough to turn the tide because wearing pj's or other kinds of loungewear out in public is a big and growing trend, especially among teens. [WSJ] (Subscription required)

Fashion News: Is Kim Kardashian a doll, or what?

KimKardashian
British beauty retailer feelunique.com got its shoppers to vote on best-female-celebrity-assets -- and by that I mean hair, lips, nose, cheekbones and such -- and came up with a composite of the ultimate beautiful celebrity. Adding up the winning parts (from Keira Knightley, the Duchess of Cambridge, Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox and more) the resulting image looks just like Kim Kardashian. [Telegraph]

Demi Moore is on the cover of the February issue of Harper's Bazaar, in a plunging Tom Ford dress, next to the words "Love & Life: Demi Moore." But reportedly the accompanying article makes no mention of Ashton Kutcher or the divorce. [The Cut]

Alexa Chung told Jimmy Fallon that her new fashion-centered show, "24 Hour Catwalk," which debuts next week, is "incredibly mean." Sounds like a must-see. [Telegraph]

Some are saying "Jersey Shore's" Season 5 premiere contained the worst style moments ever. No kidding. [New York Daily News]

JWOWW -- that would be Jenni Farley of "Jersey Shore" -- has introduced her new fragrance, called, of course, JWOWW by Jenni Farley. It's described in a press release as having top notes of Anjou pear, sparkling citron, fresh air; middle notes of rose petals, geranium blossom, sheer muguet; and bottom notes of sandalwood, deep musk and white moss. It's available at Kmart and on Amazon.com in a gift set including a moisturizer for $29.99.

More important in the fragrance world, however, is news that Louis Vuitton confirms it is soon to do its own dabbling in perfume and has hired a master perfumer. [WWD] (Subscription required.)

Fashion News: PETA hates on Janet Jackson, Kim Kardashian

PETA has named Janet Jackson Grinch of the Year for wearing fur, saying in a statement: "When Janet Jackson had her infamous wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl, at least the flesh that popped into view was her own -- unlike the stolen animal skins she drapes herself with, which are as dead as her taste in fashion." The organization also came down on Kim Kardashian for wearing fur and on filmmaker Cameron Crowe for using animal actors in "We Bought a Zoo." [PETA Files]

Alessandra Ambrosio, two months pregnantHard to believe, but when model Alessandra Ambrosio walked, scantily clad, in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last month (at left) she was two months pregnant. [Fashionista]

One more way the Duchess of Cambridge has rocked the world: Reiss, one of her favorite stores, reported a near-doubling of its profits this year. Of course, company officials point to other factors, such as tighter cost controls. But after the duchess -- then Kate Middleton -- wore a white Reiss dress for her official engagement portrait in January, the company's website crashed amid an onslaught of orders. [Telegraph]

A poll by British chain Superdrug found that Kate and sister Pippa Middleton ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively as beauty icons of the year. [Daily Mail]

A study by a Queensland University of Technology professor showed that shoppers who are touched, even lightly, by others in the crowd spend less time in stores and develop negative feelings about the brands. So my question is: then why is Black Friday so popular? The prices may draw people in, but the crowds will drive them away. [Atlantic]

Top 10 fashion trends of 2011

10collage4

In 2011, fashion was more accessible than ever before. The world's newest fashion icon and royal, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was photographed shopping at affordable chain stores. Designers talked directly to fans on TV and Twitter, and sold cheap chic collections on EBay, at H&M, Target and Macy's. There was so much information and so many opinions out there about fashion, that at times, it was difficult to find any consensus, much less a trend. But here are my picks:

1) Hot hues. Bright color is a trend that we saw simultaneously on the red carpet (Emma Stone, top left, in that pink-and-red Giambattista Valli dress at the "Friends With Benefits" premiere) on the runways (at Jil Sander, 3.1 Philip Lim, Prabal Gurung, Roksanda Ilincic) and on the streets, or rather, the fields at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, where neon reigned supreme. And it's only going to get stronger for spring 2012.

2) Dip-dyed hair. Kate Bosworth, Katy Perry and Lauren Conrad are just a few of the celebs who sported rainbow-colored tips this year. But I knew it was officially a trend when the 10-year-old boy sitting next to me at Sally Hershberger was getting a (very expensive) blue streak put in his tresses. Only in L.A.

 10collage

3) Colored denim. Are you seeing a theme here? Skinny jeans didn't go anywhere this year. In fact, they were more popular than ever thanks to a widening range of color options available everywhere from J. Brand (above) to Forever 21.

4) Native accents. Fair Isle knits and Native American prints were splashed across everything from 1980s-era cropped tops, to chunky scarves, leggings and sweaters. If you're looking for the source, think back to the fall 2010 D&G runway (a Fair Isle fest as seen in the top right photo), Proenza Schouler's fall 2011 collection inspired by Santa Fe, and the music festivals.

5)  Women in tuxedos. Beyonce wore a sequin Dolce & Gabbana tux at the VMA Awards, and Kim Kardashian (who is not one to cover up) wore one to pose for her family Christmas card. Tory Burch custom made her first tuxedo for pal Kanye West to wear to the Costume Institute Gala in May, then debuted her own range of tuxedos for women. But really, on a woman or a man, tuxedos (or le smoking as Yves Saint Laurent called them) are timeless.

10collage3

6) Designer duds for a song. Missoni at Target (above right) and Versace at H&M, both out this year, were two of the most successful cheap chic collections of all time, as designers continued to go downmarket to increase the visibility of their brands and bring their style to a new generation of shoppers. The Missoni collection was a zippity zig-zag joy, and the Versace for H&M collection -- more Gianni than Donatella, more South Beach than Milano -- may have been the best Versace collection in years.

7) The new sobriety. Thank you Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, (above left) for bringing modesty and appropriateness back to the public forum with your demure shift dresses, tailored coats and classic pumps.

8) McQueen mania. It was the royal wedding of the century, and the bride wore Alexander McQueen. The bad boy British designer may have died last year, but his fashion label has never been more popular thanks to the stunning designs of artistic director Sarah Burton, who is carrying on his legacy. More than half a million people went to see "Savage Beauty," the retrospective exhibition of his work, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, kicking off a frenzy among museum curators the world over to come up with more fashion programming.

10collage2

9) Fur and feathers flying. From feather hair clips to feather earrings, ombre fur coats to oversized fur handbags, this year we fawned over fauna. Except in West Hollywood, where last month, the City Council passed a ban on fur sales that will take effect in 2013 -- and could push some high-end fashion retailers out of the neighborhood.

10) Shock and awe. It was a clash of tutus, animal prints and fried chicken necklaces, as Nicki Minaj (above left) and Lady Gaga (above right) tried to out-weird each other with wacky outfits this year. But fashion's tolerance for weird is high (how else to explain the fascination with Daphne Guinness?) and we loved it.

Fashion News: Kardashian Christmas card features tuxedos in 3-D

Kim Kardashian left her figure-hugging dresses in the closet when she posed for the Kardashian-Jenner family Christmas card. She wears a tuxedo on the card, with bell-bottom trousers reminiscent of the 1970s. But for a 21st century twist, the card is in 3-D. [Los Angeles Times]

Kendall JennerOn the card, the whole family looks pretty tranquil, but budding model Kendall Jenner recently did something that shows she is probably the black sheep of the family. She reportedly refused mom Kris' plans to throw her a lavish Sweet 16 party in the Bahamas. [Huffington Post]

Meanwhile, Kim took to her website to refute as "malicious" reports that on a trip to Haiti earlier this month she spent lots of money on herself and attended a fashion show. Instead she was in Haiti to find out more about the charity We Advance, set up to help Haitian women. [People]

The editor of Dutch magazine Jackie resigned after publishing an article about Rihanna that used both the "n" word and the "b" word in juxtaposition. It was a joke, said editor Eva Hoeke. Only not so funny. Especially to Rihanna, who took to Twitter to call the magazine out. [Cut]

With all the new-found interest in the British royals as fashionistas (thanks to the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton), Kensington Palace plans to mount a display of some of the late Princess' Diana's outfits next March. [WWD]
