Fashion News: 'The Artist,' Angelina Jolie win producers' awards

The Artist
We were already excited that "The Artist" is a Costume Guild award nominee. And that it won best-picture honors at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice awards. On Saturday night, the film took home top honors from the Producers Guild of America. Does all this make it a shoo-in for an Academy Awards nomination for best film? Stay tuned. Oscar nominees are being announced Tuesday.  [Los Angeles Times]

Fashion: Heidi Klum's Halloween body suit and more costume ideas

"Project Runway's" Heidi Klum is known for her interesting Halloween costumes (among other things). This year she is planning one that's really different: A hand-painted body suit by designer Martin Izquierdo that looks like the inside of a body, with all the bones, organs and veins revealed. She plans to wear it to host a party this weekend in Las Vegas; she'll wear a different costume to a party in New York on Monday. [People]

IKarl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintourf you're still figuring out your own costume, Fashionista has some ideas for how to look like a fashion industry insider, with tips on turning yourself into the likes of Anna Della Russo, Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour (shown with Lagerfeld at left) Rachel Zoe (and her family), Scott Shumann or Garance Dore. Clever idea. I'm pretty sure, though, that most people wouldn't actually be able to guess who you're aping (unless Lagerfeld is your choice -- Chanel's creative director is unmistakable). [Fashionista]

Retailer H&M has released some video from its commercial shoot promoting the new Versace capsule collection that's slated to go on sale in mid-November. In one scene, model Lindsey Wixson runs backward in a large spinning hamster wheel; in another, models are trained to march in line in a cage-like structure. Tamara Eccleston, 27-year-old daughter of Formula One billionaire Bernie Eccleston, really, really, really likes shoes. She showed Closer magazine around her closet, with its 100 pairs of Christian Louboutin heels, 15 pairs of Ugg boots and  20 pairs of sneakers -- among other things. Oh, and her "closet" is actually a spare room in her London apartment. [People]

Maybe it would be cool to dress as her closet for Halloween ... go with paper cutouts of shoes taped all over your clothes. That's as close as I'll ever get to that number of Louboutins in this lifetime.

Copies of the simple, figure-hugging ivory dress Pippa Middleton wore to serve as maid of honor when sister Kate married Prince William in April are going to be offered to the general public.  Mass-market retailer Debenhams plans to sell copies for the equivalent of about $286 at today's exchange rates starting later this year. Your Morning Fashion and Beauty Report: Patti LaBelle, Ashanti elegant at the BET Awards. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley shows Burberry love at 'Transformers' premiere.

Aashantijpg Patti LaBelle looked quite elegant as she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards Sunday, wearing a navy sheath and matching coat. Later today, we'll post a photo gallery of some of the best and worst looks on the red carpet, but for now, one I like is Ashanti, at left, in her blue gown that looks good from front or back.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also chose blue, in a stunning backless navy gown from Burberry for the London premiere of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." For the after party, she made a quick change into a cream dress from Burberry's Resort 2012 collection. But over the weekend rumors started circulating that bigwigs at LVMH, which owns both the Galliano label and Christian Dior -- where John Galliano served as creative director until he was fired in March -- were considering whether it would be feasible to reinstate the disgraced designer to his eponymous label. But they apparently decided against it. [Telegraph] [Cut]

Your Morning Fashion and Beauty Report: Lady Gaga wears Versace. Charlene Wittstock talks fashion. Heidi Klum shines.

Acharlene There's another royal wedding coming up this summer when Monaco's Prince Albert marries former Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock on July 1. Wittstock is more open about talking fashion than Kate Middleton was before her. For instance, we already know that her wedding gown was designed by Giorgio Armani. whereas Middleton's dress designer was top secret until the big day. She also admits to some qualms about dressing the part of a princess. “Finding my fashion feet has certainly been the biggest challenge,” she says. Luckily she's had help, from the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Michael Kors and is considering starting a Monaco Fashion Week. [Vogue]

The June issue of Italian Vogue features three plus-sized models, shot by Steven Meisel. The models -- Candice Huffine, Tara Lynn and Robyn Lawley, all clad in Givenchy lingerie --  look incredibly gorgeous and Sophia Loren-esque. Huffington Post

One model not wearing a stitch of clothing is Heidi Klum, who reportedly has posed nude in ads for the ninth season of "Project Runway." The 38-year-old mother of four certainly looks to be making it work. Fashionista

Natalie Portman's fiance, dancer Benjamin Millepied, has landed a new gig as the face of YSL's L'Homme Libre, following Portman's lead -- she's the face of Dior's Miss Cherie scent. The ads will be out for fall. Daily Telegraph

In other model news, 35-year-old Swedish beauty Caroline Forsling is suing Estee Lauder for $2 million, saying it used a digitally altered image of her for an anti-aging beauty product. Forsling claims that the cosmetics giants labeled her as "old" and used her picture without permission for an anti-aging product aimed at 45- to 60-year-olds. Daily Mail

Get your scissors ready for the 'Project Runway' Season 9 casting call [Updated]

Project

"Project Runway" is gearing up for another season of contestant back-stabbing, full-on meltdowns, extreme challenges and, oh yeah, fashion. The show is casting for Season 9 and looking for plenty of designer hopefuls with talent and personality to fill the show's fourth season on Lifetime.

If you're at least 21 years old, are itching to show your premiere collection at the Lincoln Center tents* and totally thought you could have done better than last season's runway throwdown involving Gretchen, Mondo and Andy, click here to fill out an application. Get your application and audition tapes in by April 15. And in the word's of Tim Gunn ... make it work, people.

Your morning fashion and beauty report: Kate Middleton's faxes and Heidi Klum's new show signal end of the world as we know it

Today's royal wedding news: Noble families all over Europe are receiving faxes -- faxes! -- telling them to hold April 29 open for Prince William and Kate Middleton's big date.  Sheesh. If the royals can get away with this I'm wondering if I was wrong to tell a friend recently she absolutely could NOT send baby shower invites via Facebook. "There are just a handful of occasions in a person's life that are so special they require -- deserve -- real, old-fashioned, printed stationery," said I. And I'm blaming Kate, even though the faxes came from Buckingham Palace. You gotta take charge and stop the madness; step up and act like a princess!  [People]

What's Heidi Klum thinking? Heidi, the world loves you on "Project Runway," but a new show whose premise is playing pranks on children? It's set to debut on Lifetime Feb. 1. Let's see. Adults setting up children to be fall guys. On TV.  Sounds pretty tacky to me. [People]

Tsk, tsk, ladies. On to better news.

Abening Did you notice all the stars-- like Annette Bening, pictured here with husband Warren Beatty -- wearing chic eyeglasses at the Golden Globes? Now model Kate Moss is doing her part to show that glasses can be a great accessory, appearing in ads for Vogue Eyewear. [WWD]

Kristin Bell has signed on to be the new face of Neutrogena Naturals, a skincare line that contains no dyes, chemical sulfates, parabens or petrochemicals. “I strive to live a healthy lifestyle, and … to be able to represent a line that I actually use and like to incorporate into my daily routine is ideal,” she explains. Gucci celebrated the renovation of its flagship on Paris' Rue Royale with a cocktail party and dinner hosted by Carine Roitfeld, who recently left her 10-year post as editor of Vogue Paris after putting the March issue to bed. Glittering guests included Diane Kruger, Jessica Alba, Olivia Wilde and model Yasmin le Bon. [WWD]

Meanwhile Tory Burch marked the opening of her first store in London with a dinner attended by about 100 people. “We Brits can do hardcore glamour," guest Joely Richardson is quoted as saying. "What this city can use is some casual glamour, and that's what Tory delivers." [WWD]

And finally, people are still talking about the Alexander McQueen gown Michelle Obama wore to last week's state dinner. We told you previously that Oscar de la Renta complained that it wasn't by an American designer. Now the Council of Fashion Designers of America has weighed in with a statement backing De La Renta. “CFDA believes in promoting American fashion,” the statement read. “Our First Lady Michelle Obama has been wonderful at promoting our designers, so we were surprised and a little disappointed not to be represented for this major state dinner.” Mrs. Obama wears a variety of designers, both American and from other countries, but this was the first time she wore a non-American to a state dinner, and that's what seems to be causing the ruckus. Your morning fashion and beauty report: Michelle Obama's Alexander McQueen gown might not have been politically correct

Amichelle

Oscar de la Renta is fretting over the red and black Alexander McQueen gown Michelle Obama wore to this week's state dinner for People's Republic of China President Hu Jintao. Not that the frock by McQueen creative director Sarah Burton wasn't lovely. But it should have been made by an American or Chinese designer, not a Brit, de la Renta says. Who knew fashion was so political? [WWD]
