Frugal Fashion: Justin Timberlake, Jessica Biel at a Lakers game

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

If you're looking for a little celebrity PDA, look no further than courtside at an NBA playoff game. When the Lakers took on the Denver Nuggets during Game 7 of the Western Conference quarterfinals last  weekend, Kanye West was spotted with his arm around Kim Kardashian, whispering and holding hands with the reality TV star, while Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were seen cuddling and making out between baskets.

Timberlake and Biel can really turn up the style dial for red carpet events, however it was refreshing to see the couple still chic but dressed down for a game. Timberlake cheered on the Lakers in a classic black henley, charcoal button-down, gray pants, worn-in boots and a plaid newsboy cap. Biel wore pastel blue skinny jeans, a sheer embroidered blouse, comfy cardigan and patterned flats.

Get Timberlake's relaxed look with the Ultra slim fit dyed chino pants by Calvin Klein for $69.50, Fox Reserve S/S Henley from 6pm.com for $24.99, Kill City pigment coated poplin shirt from UrbanOutfitters.com for $34.99, Belfrey Wesleyan tartan plaid ivy cap from HatsintheBelfry.com for $29 and the JD Fisk men's Denver boot from Endless.com for $89.15.

[Updated] Frugal Fashion: Elizabeth Banks of 'The Hunger Games'

Elizabeth Banks
Elizabeth Banks, who plays the high-strung  Effie Trinket in the film "The Hunger Games," has been busy firing up red carpets across the globe promoting her new film. She's fully embraced this season's spring brights and sequins in vibrant shades of orange and sparkles that would rival Miss Trinket's most dazzling dresses. At the film's premiere in Berlin she chose a deep orange, floor-length Elie Saab gown, in Paris a rose- and sequin-embellished sheath by Marc Jacobs, and in Los Angeles a neon orange Atelier Versace one-shoulder mini-dress.

Banks continued to dip into the orange hues at the Restoration Hardware spring 2012 launch party in Los Angeles last week in a tangerine, belted frock by Andrew Gn, Christian Louboutin metallic peep-toe mosaic pumps and woven teardrop earrings by Irene Neuwirth. The deep V-neck is fun and flirty while the belted, cinched waist offers a shape that will flatter a variety of body types at any age.

Dresses
If you're not quite ready to embrace the acid neons of spring, a color similar to Banks' tangerine may ease the transition to a brighter color palette. Try the  Calvin Klein sleeveless pleated dress from Lord & Taylor for $128, Jessica Simpson women's V-neck belted cotton dress from Amazon.com for $98, Eliza J belted portrait collar taffeta dress from Nordstrom.com for $148 or the AK Anne Klein pleated fly-away front dress from Lord & Taylor for $119.

Accessories
Banks' earrings are simple, elegant and don't compete with the color of her dress. For a similar pair get the threaded teardrop earrings from Forever21.com for $4.80. She went for a pair of metallic Louboutins to finish her look. Get a similar effect with the Rsvp Brendis gold metallic snake print pump from 6pm.com for $23.70.

All the bright hues are evidence enough that in the world of fashion, spring is in bloom.

Happy shopping.

New York Fashion Week: Calvin Klein

Ck

Francisco Costa's spring collection for Calvin Klein was a beautiful escape, with sensual, body-skimming slip dresses and soft suits casting a sweetly nostalgic spell and putting a romantic spin on the minimalist trend.

Ck3

In contrast to so many of the collections here this season, which have been dizzy with color and prints, Costa used a soft palette of boudoir peach, petal and gardenia, contrasted with dusky gray.

Drop-waist slip dresses and below-the-knee skirts were lovingly detailed with pleated back panels, tissue-thin layers of tulle, and decorative seams that brought to mind the Art Deco Chrysler Building. Soft silk blazers came with shawl collars, or cut deep in front, over loose, cropped trousers

Ck2

Bravo to Costa for bringing a romantic vision to the minimalist trend.

[Updated] Frugal Fashion: Alicia Keys gets an A-plus at BET Awards, before celebrating 10-year anniversary of 'A Minor'

Lnfd7tncSunday's BET awards brought the usual suspects of funky music fashion to the show's green carpet at the Shrine in L.A. At the extreme end of the night's style spectrum was Cee Lo Green with his bedazzled jacket and spiky hair, Nicki Minaj in a fuchsia pink poufy dress with tights and hip-hop artist Don "Magic" Juan in a mustard yellow pimp suit with enough bling to power a small city.

PHOTOS: BET Awards best and worst dressed

But striking the perfect balance of flair and elegance was singer Alicia Keys, who on Tuesday celebrated the 10th anniversary release of her debut album "Songs in A Minor."

Before her power performance of her song "Typewriter" and a killer duet of "A Woman's Worth" with Bruno Mars, she strutted the green carpet in sporty-luxe black Dolce & Gabbana pants with suspenders, a white boyfriend blazer and über-high black and white zebra print platform pumps.

The structured look was unexpected for summer, but what I appreciate most about the outfit is that it's appropriately funky for the show but realistic enough to rock to a real party. For a similar look try a jumpsuit, not circa 1987 but something chic with some shape like the Calvin Klein cargo pocket jumpsuit for $99, the Cha Cha vente jumpsuit from Macys.com for $68.99, Bar III layered jumpsuit, also from Macys.com, for $59 or the Jegia-J jumpsuit by Diesel for $99.

Aliciajumpsuits

Keys' black and white color combination is bold and playful. To create a base for your own primary color palette, snag a white boyfriend blazer like the White hot boyfriend blazer from Fredflare.com for $68 or the Linen Bermuda jacket from J.Crew for $69.99.

Aliciablazers

Aliciashoesfashion Keys' zebra print shoes pop and give her outfit a playful funky edge. For some shoes that will add a twist to any look, snag the Zebra print platform pump from TheFashionHolic.com for $45.

Frugal Fashion: Rihanna pre-'S&M' at the Billboard Music Awards

Rihanna The fashion at music events can be transfixing -- more compelling, at times, than the Oscars. The attendees seem a little less stuffy; the dresses and personalities sometimes border on outrageous; and there never seems to be a shortage of moments where I find myself thinking, "What was she thinking?"

Last Sunday's Billboard Music Awards were no exception. Model Nayer draped herself in mens' neck ties, Sinbad attempted to rock a bejeweled pirate blouse, and Fergie went dominatrix in a Hervé Léger by Max Azria Atelier mini. On stage shades of pure white popped up in the form of a military trench for Mary J. Blige, a Michael Jackson-ish suit for Far East Movement frontman Kev Nish and a futuristic Tron-inspired number for Nicki Minaj.

Fire-haired songstress Rihanna, who took home awards for radio artist of the year and best female artist, stole the show in white leather lingerie for a steamy performance of "S&M."

But before Rihanna saddled up for some hip thrusting, pole dancing and a pillow fight with Britney Spears, viewers got to see a very different, much sleeker side of the artist when she walked the red carpet in a tailored men's Max Azria white suit, super-low V-cut blouse, a gold tassel necklace and nude Christian Louboutin heels.

Rihanna's menswear look is sexy and sophisticated, making her all-white attire perfect for your upcoming summer soirees. For a similar style jacket try the Linen boyfriend blazer by Armani Exchange for $130, linen blend blazer from Forever21.com for $27.80, or the Epaulet blazer by Calvin Klein for $99.

Rihblazers

For the trousers, you'll want a pair that is high-waisted for more of a feminine touch. Armani Exchange makes a great pair of trousers called the 20th pleated trouser for $88 or try the Nic + Zoe cotton side zip pants for $88.20 on Zappos.com. This look would also work with a pair of wide-leg trousers like the Bebe sailor pant for $54.99.

Rihpants

Rihanna's shirt features an extremely low V-cut. This may be appropriate for an awards show but for your next outing you can go as low or as high as you want with these frugal finds: The Sheer pocket shirt from the Gap for $59.95, Bellatrix pleated blouse from Nordstrom.com for $78, or the Sparkle & Fade Dolman blouse from Urbanoutfitters.com for $29.99.

Rihtops

Tassels have come back in a big way this season, adding a fun and frilly touch of '70s art deco. For a silver option wear the Twisted dropped-chain necklace from Charlotte Russe for $7.50 or for gold, the mesh loop tassel necklace from Topshop.com for $30.

Oscars: Calvin Klein's red carpet reign continues

Jenniferlawrence

So long ruffles, bows and rhinestones, the subtle elegance of Calvin Klein is officially a major factor on the red carpet this year. First there was Emma Stone and Claire Danes at the Golden Globes, wearing sleek, chic and simple pink and coral Calvin Klein dresses, respectively.

And Oscar best actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence just strolled down the red carpet in a red, body-conscious scoop neck dress also from Calvin Klein collection and designed by Francisco Costa, looking stunning and totally understated. Not only is the dress simple, her hair is long, loose and casual and she isn’t sporting any major bling at all, just a thin gold bangle on one arm.

It’s refreshing to see a young star stay classic and subtle rather than piling on every last sapphire or piece of silk.

New York Fashion Week: At Calvin Klein, a mixed bag

Ckgirls

Calvin Klein designer Franciso Costa has been having a great year. He dressed two celebs for the Golden Globes Awards (Emma Stone and Claire Danes), and they were among my picks for best dressed.

But those sleek and sexy, bold-colored dresses (Stone was in melon orange, and Danes in shocking pink) couldn't have been further from Costa's fall collection, which rested on gradations of black, white, stone and gray.

Ckmain1

Costa was trying to convey sportiness by giving dresses and coats rounded and dropped shoulders to resemble a sweat shirt, according to the show notes.

But the stiff volumes were awkward, not athletic.

Ckmain2

Costa is noted for his fabrics. But the wool fleece and alpaca flannel used on voluminous coats and sheaths were so plush, at times they resembled plush toys. Soft and shaggy alpaca done as a pullover top, and worn with pressed wool cigarette pants, however, looked cozy and cool.

Ckmain3

The best pieces were sleeveless shifts with metallic jacquard details. But I would have ditched the chunky white, crepe-soled shoes worn with them. Too Nurse Ratched.

Your morning fashion and beauty report: Astrological signs and Zodiac shift cause fashion problems. Oh, no!

Amarilyn
-- News Thursday that an astronomer contends that the Zodiac has shifted and that there is a 13th astrological sign has the blogosphere abuzz, but have you thought of the fashion implications? Let's say you have a Virgo T-shirt. Toss it. You might really be a Leo. The full gravity of this situation came to my attention over dinner last night when a companion suddenly realized the unthinkable implications. "Oh, no," she moaned. "I've got Scorpio tattooed on the back of my neck -- but now I'm a Libra." This is just one reason the rise of temporary tattoos, which I've mentioned before, is such a good thing -- you never know when what seems permanent (true love, the Zodiac) turns out not to be. [All the Rage]

-- Maybe Marilyn Monroe is a better bet for permanance than the stars of the celestial variety mentioned above. She may have been dead for 48 years, but her image seems eternal, and we'll likely be seeing even more of her now. Authentic Brands Group LLC has acquired the intellectual property rights needed to use Marilyn on fragrances, jewelry, clothes and cosmetics. [WWD] (subscription required)

-- Flesh-and-blood stars have the same problems as the rest of us: "Modern Family's" Sofia Vergara, trying to find something to wear to Sunday's Golden Globes -- she's a nominee -- tweets from the dressing room: "Nothing fits meeee!" [People]

-- Fashion fans watching the Golden Globes red carpet arrivals on TV are probably a good target audience for the new Calvin Klein Collection ads, which are slated to debut then and continue airing throughout NBC's broadcast of the awards. Women's Wear Daily reports that Fabien Baron directed the commercial, which features Lara Stone and Tyson Ballou and was shot in La Jolla. The ad showcases the full collection, including clothes, clutches, belts, sunglasses and furniture. [WWD]

-- This one is hard to picture: Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour rapping on Sean "P Diddy" Combs' new album, "Last Train to Paris." But she does, and she isn't the only one repping the fashion industry. The album, by Combs' new group Diddy Dirty Money, also features André Leon Talley, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Isaac Mizrahi and Zac Posen. [Telegraph]

Frugal Fashion: Sofia Coppola sparkles in a sequin tank

Ldcw9cnc Sofia Coppola is the ultimate jack of all (Hollywood) trades. She's been an actress, director, producer, screenwriter, costume designer and cinematographer, and she's only 39. It doesn't hurt that she comes from Hollywood royalty; her father is Francis Ford Coppola, and famous cousins include Jason Schwartzman and Nicolas Cage.

As part of a clan of Hollywood elite, Coppola is used to the flashbulbs that come with fame and has a unique sense of style when in the public view. She has a knack for being subtle in her wardrobe choices but always tends to add her own special twist, whether it be a cute clutch bag or, in this case, some sparkle.

At a recent screening for her new film, "Somewhere," Coppola attracted flashbulbs galore in a tank adorned with dark blue sequins; black pleated crop trousers; ankle strap heels and a clutch bag.

Her outfit looks sensible and conservative but fun enough to wear to the after party. And, indeed, sequined tanks are a playful, inexpensive way to spruce up any party outfit. Get your party on with one of these sequined tanks, all frugally priced of course:

Tanks

From left, sequin and fabric mix tank from The Limited for $49.90, Michael Kors sequin tank from blufly.com fro $63, Peter Nygard sequin tank from Dillard's for $35.40, Calvin Klein tank from Macy's for $34.99 or this Simply Vera Vera Wang sequin tank from Kohl's for $48.

Give your new sparkly tank the attention it deserves by pairing it with some simple black trousers:

Pants

Your morning fashion and beauty report: Katy Perry spoofs 'Sesame Street' flap. Lady Gaga good for Armani. Miranda Kerr dazzles at Milan Fashion Week.

Katy

Katy Perry was on "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend, singing, of course, but also spoofing the tempest in a teapot over the low-cut top she wore on a "Sesame Street" taping that got her segment cut from that show after it showed up in advance on YouTube and led to parental complaints.  This time she wore a really low-cut Elmo T-shirt and played a children's library volunteer in trouble over her revealing clothing. She didn't say much; instead, she just let her tee and her costars do the talking. [Entertainment Weekly]
