Shopping: Kevan Hall to speak in O.C, sample sales, openings

Los Angeles-based fashion designer Kevan Hall is slated to speak at the next Smart Women “Fashion for Breakfast” event sponsored by the Orange County nonprofit Working Wardrobes, which offers a variety of services including job training, coaching and interview-ready clothes to help disadvantaged job seekers. Besides speaking, Hall -- shown here with prior speaker Susan Claassen, an actress who portrays costume designer Edith Head in a one-woman show -- will show some of the clothes from his collection and schedule appointments for private styling consultations. The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. May 8 at Charlie Palmer’s restaurant, in Bloomingdale’s at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. California Market Center

The California Market Center will be open to the public for a huge sample sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, as it is on the last Friday of every month. (Note: Hours may vary at individual showrooms.) Hundreds of showrooms offering fashions and furnishings are participating. Parking is $10. The market center is at 9th Street and Main in downtown Los Angeles. Cash preferred.

Westfield

Westfield Topanga and Westfield Fashion Square are teaming with Angeleno magazine for special “Generation Next” fashion events, including at each location a fashion show, beauty treatments and lounges promoting health, beauty and fashion. In addition, shoppers who present same-day receipts from two or more stores totalling $500 or more will receive two free tickets to see Cirque du Soleil’s Iris at the Kodak Theatre. The events are from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Westfield Topanga, 6600 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park; and 1 to 6 p.m. May 5 at Westfield Fashion Square, 14006 Riverside Dr., Sherman Oaks.

Cynthia Vincent

Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent plans a one-day sample sale Friday, offering women’s clothing, shoes and handbags. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cooper Building, Suite 422, 860 S. Los Angeles St., Los Angeles. Cash or credit cards only.

Malibu Country Mart

Kolletti Bambini, a boutique specializing in designer and organic clothes and accessories for babies and children under 10, has opened at the Malibu Country Mart. The store is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week. It’s at 23410 Civic Center Way B-3, Malibu. (800) 310-0149.

Elizabeth Charles

Elizabeth Charles has opened a high-end, multi-brand designer boutique in Newport Beach. It’s the first in Southern California for Charles, who also has boutiques in New York City and San Francisco. Among the labels she carries are Cushnie et Ochs, Vanessa Bruno, KARL by Karl Lagerfeld, Pierre Balmain, Erdem, Chloe and more. Scoop NYC

Scoop NYC, known in New York City and a few other select locales as the ‘Ultimate Closet’ for its mix of men’s and women’s designer clothing and accessories, has opened its first California location, a boutique in Brentwood, at 216 26th St. (424) 238-5499. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
