The Los Angeles area will be well represented when Univision’s reality show/beauty pageant ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina’ (‘Our Latin Beauty’) returns to the airwaves Sunday for its sixth season.

Hosted by Giselle Blondet, viewers and a panel of judges (the president of the Miss Venezuela beauty pageant, a former Miss Universe from Mexico and a telenovela star) will help determine who ends the season with $250,000 in cash and prizes and an exclusive contract with Univision.

The Los Angeles area is well represented in this season’s 58 contestants representing eight countries, 11 U.S. states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, with 10 local women among those vying for top honors: Cynthia Arevalo, Flerida Beso, Ixchel Cardenas, Karen Carrillo, Vivana Granillo, Geisy Hernandez, Setareh Khatibi, Thalia Lara, Naomi Marroquin and Gretchen Serrao.

Even though, according to the 2010 U.S. Census, the city of Los Angeles ranks only behind New York City in Latino population, there’s no guarantee any of the Southland contestants will make the list of 12 finalists (who, in typical reality-show fashion, move into a mansion together) -- or take home the crown for that matter, since no American contestant has taken the crown since 2008.

Last season’s winner, Nastassja Bolivar, hailed from Nicaragua, in 2010 the title went to a competitor from Mexico (as it did in the debut 2007 season), in 2009 it was won by a Cuban beauty queen and in 2008 the crown went to Puerto Rico’s Melissa Marty -- giving the U.S. its sole win.

Season 6 of of ‘Nuestra Belleza Latina’ premieres Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT
