Fashion News: Viola Davis’ natural hair a hit at Oscars

Viola Davis eschewed wigs and wore her hair short and natural to the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday, reportedly taking husband Julius Tennon’s advice after he saw how stunning she looked with natural hair on the cover and in a photo spread in our own Los Angeles Times magazine earlier this month. I thought she looked lovely, and younger too, with the short crop, reddish hue and emerald green Vera Wang gown. [People]

Los Angeles Times menswear writer Adam Tschorn found out more about that mysterious pin with the numeral 6 that Tom Hanks was wearing at the Oscars. [Los Angeles Times]

One of my favorite Oscar attendees -- Miss Piggy -- was gussied up too, and she wasn’t wearing doll clothes. She was clad in a dress by Zac Posen, Christian Louboutin shoes and Fred Leighton jewelry (with real diamonds, amethysts and platinum.) Her date, Kermit, wore a Brooks Brothers tux. [InStyle]

We saw a lot of sheer dresses on the Oscars’ red carpet, and apparently the trend will continue for fall. The Milan Fashion Week runways have been notable for the sheer apparel that’s being shown. [The Cut]

Sports Illustrated swimsuit model-of-the-moment Kate Upton stars in the new ad for the Southwest Patty Melt at Carl’s Jr and Hardees. In the video, it looks, um, spicy. The sandwich, I mean.
