Lea Michele’s fringey Marchesa dress may have been a bit of a miss at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night, but her makeup, punctuated by a bold pink lip, was spot on.

Makeup artist Melanie Inglessis aimed to complement the Glee actresses’ bright white frock with a palette of feminine pink on the face.

Inglessis started with Armani Luminous foundation to create a glowing canvas on the skin. To play up Michele’s dark eyes, she added drama with Lancome’s Le Crayon Kohl in Black Coffee and Hypnose Drama mascara in black. For some depth, Inglessis swept shadow from the Lancome Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Chic by Chelle across the eyelid.

But the main focus was obviously Michele’s pretty pink pout, which gave a frosty ‘60s feel to her all-white dress. The color was Lancome Rouge In Love lipstick in Roses in Love (out this February) and was certainly an interesting choice for the starlet.

“A pink lip is a modern twist on the classic red lip,” says Inglessis “It looks beautiful when the rest of the face is natural.”

She kept the blush light, so as not to compete with the lip color, using YSL Voile de Blush in Carmine Veil.
