The Miss America pageant is sprucing up contestant wardrobes by adding a swimwear line with a little more sex appeal. Swimwear newcomer Kompliqué will take over for the more conservative Swim N Sport as the new official swimsuit sponsor of the pageant and will provide all the contestants with items from its first collection.

The suits feature modern styles in colorful bold striped patterns and pretty florals. Wearing a two-piece swimsuit may not be new to the competition (contestants were first allowed to wear two-pieces in 1947), but this year pageant contestants will be showing off some serious skin in cuts that include classic bikinis, bandeau tops, halters, tankinis and classic one-pieces.

‘There are suggestions offered for swimwear styles and the guidelines reflect the vision for the production of the telecast on ABC,’ said Art McMaster, president and chief executive of the Miss America Organization, but each of the 53 contestants ultimately chooses her own suit. Contestants will meet with a consultant from the Kompliqué design team to determine the right fit, style, color and pattern.

The limited-edition swimwear collection, along with cover-ups and dresses, will debut during the pageant and be available for sale at Kompliqué.com.

The 2012 Miss America Pageant, hosted by Brooke Burke-Chavet and Chris Harrison, will air live on ABC on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 9 p.m. EST.
