The knee-length dress from British designer David Koma’s spring collection was a fashion star that telegraphed, ‘Look at me; I’m grown up and sophisticated.’

‘For the first time, she came across less as a trash-talking, peace sign-flashing teen and more as a sophisticated, well-dressed, refined young woman,’ Moore writes, in an examination of why a dress worn on the red carpet is more than just a dress.

This fashion coup could have a lasting effect on Cyrus’ career. What a star or starlet wears on the red carpet can help promote a film, create a memorable persona or fade into the background.
