Fashion News: Rooney Mara's premiere style; Liz Taylor's jewels

December 14, 2011 |  8:45 am

Rooney Mara— Rooney Mara stayed a bit edgy at the world premiere of David Fincher's "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" in London on Monday. The title character she portrays is notable for her punky, techy style, and Mara brought just a whiff of that to the red carpet in a white gown with cutouts at the waist and shoulders. On Tuesday at the Stockholm premiere, she wore black, again with cutouts at the midriff. The film is set to open here Dec. 21. [StarPulse]

— Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry, sometimes called "the crown jewels of Hollywood," was sold at auction Tuesday night in London, setting a world record of $115,932,000 for the amount of money spent on a private jewelry collection at auction. (The previous record was set when the Duchess of Windsor's collection was sold for $50,281,887 in 1987). The star of the evening was the "Elizabeth Taylor Diamond," the 33.29-carat Asscher-cut ring  Richard Burton gave her in 1968. It went for $8,818,500. [The Telegraph]

— Fun trivia: The most expensive nail polish today sells for around $30, but the most expensive ever sold for $130,000 — it was called Gold Rush Couture and had a lid inlaid with more than a thousand diamonds. [Fashionista]
