Runway Rundown: Michael Bastian spring-summer 2012
What: Michael Bastian's spring-summer 2012 men's runway collection.
Where: New York City
Inspiration: "For spring '12, I wanted to investigate the life and impact of James Dean on American menswear. For a man who died at 24 and only acted in three movies, his impact and influence has been profound."
What that meant: red, washed-canvas windbreakers paired with skinny indigo jeans, racer-striped band-collar shirts, patches inspired by automotive work-wear, surf shorts, linen and seersucker jackets and cashmere sweaters made to look like inside-out sweatshirts.
Accessories included Philip Crangi for Michael Bastian jewelry, Michael Bastian X Randolph Engineering sunglasses and opticals (along with some vintage pieces once worn by Dean courtesy of Old Focals in Pasadena) and Stubbs & Wootton for Michael Bastian footwear.
Perfect for: brooding bad boys and anyone seeking a soupçon of sartorial swagger.
