New York Fashion Week: Altuzarra

September 12, 2011 | 10:58 am

Admittedly, most of fashion's big ideas come from designers in Milan and Paris. But sometimes, those ideas don't really become accessible until a few seasons later, when they've wound their way around to America.

Case in point: Joseph Altuzarra's spring collection, which was so obviously reminiscent of a scuba-inspired, tropical floral print-accented  Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga show from a few seasons back. Only in Altuzarra's hands, the look was less about making a statement, and more about making wearable clothes.

Sleek mini dresses and skirts with tropical print panels and leggings with print racing stripes were hot stuff, while padded leather motocross jacket;, liquid-look, sleeveless coats; and perforated leather dresses were sophisticated enough in their own right to ensure Altuzarra will continue to be a talent to watch.
