Fashion News: Dress like Kim Kardashian or Jennifer Lopez

August 18, 2011 |  9:00 am

Kim Kardashian "Millionaire Matchmaker" Patti Stanger has interesting advice for shopping for a date night outfit. Don't emulate Rachel Zoe and wear Boho, she says. Instead take a style cue from Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian, and dress to emphasize your best (by which she means sexiest) assets -- kind of like Kim does here. And don't take a girlfriend or gay male friend along for advice when you're shopping, the host of the Bravo show says. Take a straight male friend. Preferably one who's hot, she says. [Daily Mail]

People magazine got a handful of fashion designers to imagine what Kim Kardashian's wedding dress should look like, and -- somewhat in sync with Stanger's advice above --they all envisioned tight-fitting gowns that would hug those famous curves. But, of course, Vera Wang -- who is designing the gown for Saturday's nuptials-- didn't participate. [People]

Los Angeles is one of the world's top five fashion cities. So says Global Language Monitor, a Texas-based analytics group that tracks word usage trends on the Internet to figure this kind of thing out. London nudged New York out of first place this year -- possibly due to Sarah Burton's dreamy Alexander McQueen gown for royal bride the former Kate Middleton. So this year's top five were London, New York, Paris, Milan and Los Angeles, in that order. Kristen Stewart got a bombshell of a makeover for the cover of September's W magazine. She looks very 1960s glamorous, with bouffant hair, heavy eye makeup and pale lips. [Us]

Famed photographer Mario Testino -- he shot Prince William and Kate Middleton's engagement photos and Kate Moss' wedding -- is to be awarded the inaugural Moët & Chandon Étoile award that recognizes exceptional talent in someone who has had an impact on culture. [Telegraph]
