All the Rage switches to Facebook for comments

All the Rage is switching to a new commenting system, designed to ensure that comments go online faster while cutting back on the number of anonymous commenters. The change will take place Thursday afternoon.

The system requires commenters to sign in through their Facebook accounts. Readers will have the option of posting the comments on their Facebook walls, too, as well as on All the Rage, so friends can see what they are thinking, but that’s not required.

People without Facebook accounts will not be able to leave comments.

The change is part of an experiment on several Los Angeles Times blogs that’s been going on for the last few months. Readers are welcome to express their opinions about All the Rage articles -- and about how the new Facebook comments system is working.

For more information, Jimmy Orr, the Los Angeles Times managing editor in charge of latimes.com, discusses the Facebook system in greater depth here.
