Summer special: Indah’s Balinese-made cruise collection

Unless your swimsuit self-esteem rivals that of the Situation’s, you’re probably a fan of beach and pool-side coverups. And now’s the time to start hunting for that perfect piece to throw on after a day of (safe) sunning, to cruise the boardwalk.
Light, gauzy pieces from contemporary brand Indah are among our favorites we’ve seen this season, and range in styles such as a printed shorts romper and a traditional maxi-length caftan tie-dyed with oversized hearts.

Libby DeSantis, a Hawaiian native who currently lives in Bali, designed the collection — which also includes sleek, simple swimwear — as a homage to Balinese style (Indah means ‘beauty’ in Indonesian.)

The capsule collection consists of coverups, mini- and maxi-dresses, rompers, separates and swimwear — all designed, sourced and produced on the island of Bali.

Many of the pieces employ fabric and fabric treatments that are indigenous to Bali, including salt printing — a traditional Balinese technique in which artisans throw salt onto a freshly dyed piece of fabric so it soaks up the color in the spots where it lands — wave painting, mirage tie-dye and Balinese lace (a flat, enlarged lace.)

And DeSantis, who’s an avid surfer, personally tests her swimwear to make sure it’s as athletic as it is aeshetic. The collection retails from $96 to $156 for coverups and clothing; and from $122 to $176 for swimwear.
