A week into the John Galliano scandal, Parisian officials have decided to bring him to trial on charges of violating French anti-Semitism laws when he allegedly hurled comments at a couple in a bar last week. The trial would take place sometime later this year, and Galliano, 50, could face up to six months in prison and $31,000 in fines if convicted, the prosecutor’s office said. [Los Angeles Times]

As our Adam Tschorn reported Wednesday, Galliano had issued an apology over the incident, though he said in a statement that he had been provoked. The statement did not address two other alleged incidents of anti-Semitism by the designer -- fired as creative director at Dior due to the allegations -- but said he was seeking help for his personal problems. The whole affair set of a chorus of celebrity Tweets, from puzzled socialite Daphne Guinness saying ‘what little I know of John he is not racist, sensitive and has been having a struggle” to Jaime King urging her followers to eschew all Galliano clothing. Perhaps the funniest? Steve Martin who Tweeted: Charlie Sheen and John Galliano to date. [Mel] Gibson irked.” [WWD]

Justin Bieber’s recent haircut has proven to be lucrative. Bieber presented Ellen DeGeneres with a lock from his shorn head, which she put it up for bid on EBay and sold -- for $48,668. The money is being donated to the Gentle Barn Foundation, an animal rescue organization in Santa Clarita. [StyleList]
