'Pirates 4' Hayden-Harnett tie-in treasure to include scarves, cuffs, clutches and handbags
Johnny Depp's fourth turn as Capt. Jack Sparrow -- in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," doesn't set sail in U.S. theaters until May 20, but the treasure chest of fashion collaborations is already being pried open.
First on the map is Brooklyn-based accessories label Hayden-Harnett (which created some of the more popular "Tron: Legacy"-inspired accessories) for Walt Disney Signature limited-edition (just 50 pieces of each style) collection of women's cuffs, scarves and bags that will be available for online pre-order Friday for May 1 delivery -- the same day it hits the brand's Brooklyn store and select boutiques around the country. (To see the entire collection up close, you can click through the lookbook here; to see them in action, check out the video below.)
Priced from $78 and $498, the pieces will set a stylish swashbuckler back a few doubloons, but things that seem to capture the true spirit of the franchise's fashion are actually among the least expensive -- the silk scarves printed with galleons, anchors and scabbards ($98), and the leather cuffs accented with appropriately pirate-inspired metal buckles and plates ($98).
Although the antique metal hardware motif carries over to the more expensive clutches and handbags that round out the limited-edition collection -- from the $148 Queen Anne clutch to the $498 Galleon satchel -- those pieces feel a bit more forced down the tie-in gangplank.
And really, what pirate carries his booty in a fringed hobo bag these days?

I'm not crazy about this line from Hayden Harnett. I think it lacks the sophistication of some of their previous designs and the hardware looks a bit gaudy/cheap. Then again, perhaps this is intentionally aimed at a younger demographic; it'll probably be a big hit with the Juicy crowd.
Caveat emptor: HH doesn't have a good track record when it comes to pre-orders...merch arrives late or not at all and refunds are processed very slowly.
