Break out that ugly Christmas sweater, sweep your hair back into the mullet of yore and shake an acid-washed leg down to Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade on Saturday.

That’s where the Old Navy Awkward Holiday Photo Mobile will be from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to help you create (or perhaps re-create) those awkward family photos of seasons past -- like the one above in which Mom, Dad and the kids are captured grinning from ear to ear while dressed as Christmas presents.

The photo is from awkwardfamilyphotos.com, and Old Navy has tapped Mike Bender and Doug Chernack -- the guys behind that website (and the book ‘Awkward Family Photos’) -- to rove around this holiday season in a vehicle full of awkward-making props to help you and yours generate an appropriately uncomfortable yuletide digital photo.

Participation is technically free, but any ‘donations for admission’ will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital -- and Old Navy is throwing some holiday discounts into the mix as well.

Although it might seem odd for Old Navy’s marketing efforts to include this foray into a world full of regrettable fashion, I think it strikes the perfectly kitschy tone for the brand. After all, who doesn’t remember those commercials with Morgan Fairchild and Jon Lovitz?

Now if only Old Navy could get them to pose in an awkward holiday photo (I’m envisioning something like matching sweaters and reindeer antlers), I could cross that Christmas wish off my list.

Old Navy Awkward Holiday Photo Mobile, Third Street Promenade (between Wilshire and Arizona), Santa Monica, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
