Country music stars did the runway proud at Wednesday’s Country Music Awards. Some favorites: Carrie Underwood’s sparkly strapless gown with ruffled peplum by Talbot Runof (above), Taylor Swift’s scarlet Monique Lhuillier, Julianne Hough’s tiered organza with crystal embroidery by Georges Chakra. In my mind there were some misses, too. (Leighton Meester’s blousy print Emilio Pucci with sweeping train seemed to be wearing her, and why did Leann Rimes turn what might have been a perfectly nice gown into something a 1980s high-schooler might wear)? See for yourself at People.

Just how do those Victoria’s Secret models get so glamorous for the lingerie giant’s annual runway show? Women’s Wear Daily went behind the scenes to watch as hair was styled, makeup applied and finishing touches, well, finished. Louis Vuitton kicked off the holiday season Tuesday night with a party celebrating a holiday that might not have been the first to come to mind -- Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights. The glamorous soiree, at Vuitton’s 57th Street flagship in NYC, was co-hosted by jewelry designer Waris Ahluwalia and novelist Jhumpa Lahiri, to benefit the SOS Children’s Villages charity, which builds homes for abandoned children and orphans around the world. Having left Hogwart’s behind, actress Emma Watson (Hermione Granger in the ‘Harry Potter’ series) is quickly building her adult fashion cred. She looked dazzling at Warner Brothers’ party in London celebrating its acquisition of Leavesden Studios, where much of ‘Potter’ was filmed. Watson wore a one-shoulder black velvet dress by French house Vionnet with spiky silver earrings and a slash of red lipstick. Quite the vamp! [Telegraph]

Speaking of Veterans Day, Maybelline and Cosmopolitan magazine have teamed up to run a ‘kiss station’ Thursday on New York City’s Military Island. Participants can leave lipsticked kisses on postcards that will be sent to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for New Year’s Eve, and Maybelline and Cosmo will donate $1 to the USO for each kiss that’s collected. [StyleList] Not in New York? You can donate and kiss a virtual postcard at Cosmopolitan.

Angelina Jolie is Vogue’s December cover girl, looking somewhat coy and actually displaying her tattoos in something of a departure for the fashion bible. [The Cut]
