Alternative Apparel adds accessories to its laid-back clothing line

Alternative Apparel may be known for its super-comfy T-shirts, sweatshirts and leggings, and now the label is adding accessories for spring 2011, rounding out the lifestyle aspect of the line.

Designing the accessory line is L.A.-based Mollie Culligan, whose former line of leather bags and accessories called the Jack Rabbit Collection earned her a spot in Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion in spring 2007 and attracted fashionable fans such as Agyness Deyn, Drew Barrymore and Kate Moss.

Culligan’s bags that will accompany the Alternative Apparel Ts, slouchy shorts and hoodies are decidedly less structured than the leather hobos and angular clutches she made for Jack Rabbit, which is fitting considering Alternative Apparel’s loose and perfect-for-layering pieces.

The designer has included an ‘80s-inspired, acid-wash denim duffle bag, a ‘holster’ bag that is worn, well, like a holster and has deep pockets to stash stuff in. And, delving back a little into leather, Culligan has created a hippie-style bag that’s long and has strips of leather fringe. The entire collection will consist of travel bags, wallets and even cellphone cases, all designed by Culligan.

The accessory line, which ranges in price from $60 to $130, will be available for spring at www.alternativeapparel.com.
