The Paris-based Thierry Mugler brand announced on Monday that Nicola Formichetti had been named creative director of its men’s and women’s ready-to-wear lines beginning with the fall-winter 2011-12 collections.

Formichetti, 33, is a consultant whose client list includes Japanese retailer Uniqlo and magazine Vogue Hommes Japan (he serves as fashion director of both), and a stylist whose celebrity clientele includes one known for her over-the-top ensembles -- Lady Gaga. (At his personal blog, Formichetti credited himself as stylist for Gaga’s multiple-outfit VMA appearance Sunday night that included this ‘meat dress’ by Franc Fernandez.)

Formichetti comes on board following the departure of Rosemary Rodriguez, who has served as artistic director at the fragrance and fashion brand since 2008, and according to a press release released Monday, his addition is part of a larger reshuffling at the French label that includes Sébastien Peigné as the head designer of the women’s collections, and Romain Kremer as the head designer of men’s.
