Unless you’re looking to add another tie to your father’s closet or #1 DAD mug to the cupboard, then you’re probably on the search for something special to bestow on him come June 20.

Here are a few suggestions inspired by cool Southern California fathers:

For new dads or fathers-to-be, head to the Diaper Dude truck, which will be cruising around town next week in a converted ice cream truck selling their diaper bags (manly ones, of course) at 20% off and handing out free ice cream. Get the truck’s whereabouts on Twitter: @thediaperdude

If your dad’s been inspired by the guys on Jersey Shore, but needs some insta-slimming, then help him get the abs he’s always wanted with Ript Fusion’s answer to Spanx. These T-shirts and tank tops are equipped with rippled abs, so they suck in a gut and love handles while enhancing the abdominal area with a six pack. ($58 at www.riptfusion.com)

But if he’s already super active and all set in the abs department, then your dad might need some fitness accoutrement. Kiehl’s new Cross Terrain is a collection of high-performance active body care for guys who move and sweat a lot. ($15.50 to $25.50 at www.kiehls.com.) And speaking of sweat, the Sweatless towel from Yogitoes is a like a Sham-Wow for the sweat glands and should help dad get through yoga class or a leisurely jog without returning totally drenched ($14 at www.yogitoes.com).
And for the active dad who has everything, a stand-up paddle board from GSI will let him ride out onto the ocean for some alone time (all while working his upper body). ($895 at www.surfindustries.com.)

OK, enough activity – it is after all, dad’s day to shine and relax and these 1800 Tequila bottles emblazoned with splashy graphics from several young artists including a bottle designed by Shepard Fairey’s Studio Number One will definitely help dad wind down. If none of the existing artwork would appeal to him, then you can also design your own. What dad wouldn’t appreciate a tequila bottle with his son’s picture on it? If he didn’t he’d feel like a worm. ($24.99 a bottle at http://www.1800tequila.com/essential.)

Replace your dad’s mandals with something more beachy and less dorky. The Sanuk Sidewalk Surfer is the epitome of laid-back footwear and the Scurvy boat shoe style works as preppy footwear but without feeling uptight. Now if there were just a way to get him to stop wearing that Blackberry holster… ($55 at www.sanuk.com)

For the wannabe know-it-alls, get dad a Wikireader. It fits right into his pocket and puts information on over 3 million topics right at his fingertips. He’ll just have to find room for the device behind his pocket protector. ($99 at www.thewikireader.com.)

And when in doubt, there’s always casual summer gear that your dad can wear whether on the golf course or when visiting the grandkids over the next few months.

Kangol’s Neo Check Hudson cap is a traditional flat cap fit and style but with a fun pop of color ($89 at www.kangol.com), or if your dad is the typical jeans and T-shirt type with a penchant for music, Sony’s Archive 1887 T-shirts are as comfortable as they come and illustrated with authentic artwork and graphics of bands from back in the day ($58 at www.Barneys.com).

For family vacas or any weekend fishing trips with the guys, dad needs a simple but stylish carryall. Get him a sturdy canvas duffle in a preppy navy blue. L.L. Bean Signature’s is understated and roomy enough for essentials ($64 at www.LLbeansignature.com).

And just for fun, Fred Flare has an Underwear Repair Kit that even if not put into use, will definitely make dad smile. ($10.95 at www.fredflare.com)
