It was a small party, but a handful of L.A. fashion’s most talented players — including Melissa Coker, designer for Wren, and Clayton Webster, co-designer for Cerre — showed up to toast local shoe designer Jerome C. Rousseau at a soiree at Zainab boutique on Thursday night.

And though everyone was being social, it proved difficult to keep the conversation off of Rousseau’s stunning spring collection — comprised of gracefully wrought heels and flats — displayed throughout the store.

‘Jerome’s shoes are effortlessly elegant and sexy at the same time,’ said store owner Zainab Sumu. ‘We saw each other in New York and I said, ‘We need to do something together in L.A.’’

The designer, dressed in a black blazer, white pants and a striped sailor shirt, was equally complementary of his host. ‘When Zainab was [buying], she was picking up on all the things that mattered to me in the collection,’ he said. ‘She built the same story in the store that I had created.’

Standout looks from the collection include a pair of black suede heels with gold metal accents, including a softly rounded metal toe piece, left, and a platform bootie-shoe with a leather upper that folds around the foot like a tulip.

‘I want every single pair,’ said one entranced party-goer, succinctly summing up the thoughts of every female in the room.
