Making it work: Project Runway puts out a casting call to aspiring designers

Attention all thimble-wearing, pin-tucking fashion designers who’ve yet to find fame and fortune in the industry: ‘Project Runway’ wants you. Well, at the very least, the reality show wants you to submit your portfolio for consideration.

The Lifetime show is casting for its eighth season -- and the deadline for entry, April 22, is looming.

To apply, you have to be 21 or older and have earned less than $100,000 in gross sales per year as a fashion designer.

Among the materials requested are two photos of yourself -- a close-up and a full body -- a virtual portfolio of your work, and images of your patterns (if you work from them) and sketches.

We’ve heard that after Season 6, which took place in L.A. and featured far too many technically unskilled designers, the standards for contestants on ‘Runway’ have become more stringent (hence all the uber-skilled designers vying for the prize this season).

The invite-only auditions for the next season will take place between April 26 and May 21. If you and your work are selected for closer inspection, you’ll be invited to an audition that’s geographically closest to you (there’s definitely one happening in Los Angeles).
