April marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and Burt’s Bees wants L.A. residents to channel their “inner-Burt” by donning hats and beards just like the company’s co-founder Burt Shavitz.

A Burt’s Bees street team will be stationed at Venice Beach on April 2 to hand out Burt-inspired faux beards, hats and product samples. They’ll also be making smoothies with the help of some pedaling action of a “bike blender.” All cups used for smoothies will later be brought to a compost pile for disposal.

Burt’s Bees has been using recycled packaging long before it got trendy, so the company is credible in teaching us all a thing or two about living lightly. Now as far as the Burt’s beards go…judging from the photos of Shavitz, I’m guessing they’re going to be pretty itchy. And I’ve got to wonder, are those made from recycled materials too?

Get your Burt on, and start celebrating Earth Day a little early, April 2 on the Venice Beach boardwalk.
