Did you know that your old jeans can help create insulation for homes in needy communities? Me neither.

But the Gap has partnered with Cotton Inc., which does exactly that -- its philanthropic arm runs a program that converts denim into UltraTouchTM Natural Cotton Fiber Insulation, then donates it to communities in distress.

The mass retailer is asking people to drop off their old denim skirts, jeans and shorts to any Gap, BabyGap or GapKids store between now and March 14 as part of the ‘Cotton. From Blue to Green’ denim drive.

And the company’s sweetening the pot by offering a 30% discount on a new pair of jeans -- including looks from the cool 1969 Premium Jeans line -- to donating customers (one discount per customer).

Since Cotton Inc. began the denim initiative four years ago, it has recycled enough denim to create natural cotton fiber insulation for over 540 homes. Can you imagine a more noble resting place for your tattered old Levi’s?
